IMHO, and it is only my opinion, if it's a metallic paint colour stick to 12" wheels otherwise to some extent you're confusing eras of cars.

Hmmm.

But the '79 1100 special certainly had metallic paint. And 10s. With the (later standard) plastic arches and it looked the bomb.

Those 'exacton' wheels could also be found on mayfairs pre 12 inch. With metallic paint.

Pearlescent purple though. That's a different story. There's no doubt though, the wheels that are on mine look really good against the purple.

I'm probably not going to go 10s as I would only do it for gold exactons. Which means finding a set, and the proper caps and then painting them.. I mean I could

Made a list of bits required.

New cones, fronts at least. It's on the bump stops.
Gear link oil seal thingymabob. (Of course it drips)
Set of 4 shockers.

I'd also like to find an original air box as although the induction sounds nice, I think the original works fine with a free flow filter in it, and it makes cruising a little quieter.

And do I want a silver roof.....

Nothing as it was raining.

Had to nip down to Tesco, only about 3 miles away and as it was dry for a change so I thought Id give the mini a run out.

Parked it up at the end of a row of spaces and did my shopping. Came back to find several people standing around admiring it. I got speaking to a lovely lady of about 73 who told me how she had been bought a brand new mini in 1966 when she was 18 and a student nurse and had driven it for many happy years until she changed it for a Hillman Imp which she hated.

Its nice the way you get to speak to people who otherwise you'd never meet all because of these little cars that we love.

Steam cleaned the engine, took about 4 goes at it but the result is better than I expected.

 

Went through a 5 litre tub of Swarfega crud remover, worked out OK.

 

Just need to let it dry and then can get on with painting it...

Stared at the rust where the rear valance should be and started the list of what I will need to get by way of panels. Oh joy!!!
