Took apart the front grill to refurbish it.

i carefully numbered each Crome rail as I removed it.

when I started to clean it I found that each piece was stamped with a sequential number.......

Great detail, and marvellous help for reconstruction

Top marks Rover???

I was in search of the solution to no drive (in any gear) and a clattering from "down there". (not my car so I don't know how it happened). So I dropped the subframe etc. out and took the flywheel off (Minispares puller - piece of cake.. thanks). The clutch is fine. Oh dear, something broken in the box or diff. Last time I stripped one of those was about 1977.

Now I've got as far as the drop gears and the first motion shaft gear retaining nut has unwound itself against the flywheel housing bearing, chewing the aluminium somewhat. There's no sign of a lock washer for the nut - should there be? It's getting more messy by the day.

Hi mate, just googled pics, looks like there should be a locking washer with bend over tabs :-)

I'm looking at the oil pump on my 1275 A plus and it is bolted in with two hex head and two philips head bolts. Is this normal?

Yes.

Only the hex heads fasten it to the block. The philips hold it together.

Just try the scraper or an old wood chisel first. It's usually very brittle and comes off in chunks with a good poke.

Took my Mini on a 106 mile trip to Mill Road Garage for Ben to work his magic, the weather conditions were dreadful but it was such an enjoyable drive, definitely put a smile on my face.
I do love my Mini.
