Haha  It's really good, I don't find shopping under the spare wheel a fortnight later any more!

Fast reaching the point where I had really hoped to get the new engine in by...

It's still working but it rattles more so than ever and definitely isn't happy. Since the Olympics, work has really taken off and I've not been able to do without the car. I'm starting a new job in a couple of weeks so hopefully that will allow me to buy another daily car and actually look after the Mini!

Today has just been doing some small jobs, checking the valve clearances and fluid levels. All seems well still.

I also moved the breather catchment bottle to a better location away from the air intake pipe. That lucozade bottle is made of tough stuff, I can't believe it's lasted this long!

As a triathlon coach, I frequently have to take my bike to work with me. I definitely need a bigger car

I do have a bike rack for up top, and it's definitely simpler, but not for when it's left unattended! This is only my work/training bike and I'm paranoid about leaving it anywhere.

Don't be afraid to just get on and do it - if the rattle turns into anything else you'll end up loosing parts you'd want to put back on to the new engine.

Preventative maintenance, always.

Oh I know Oli, I did after all buy that engine months ago  I'm just not in a position at the moment to take the car off the road, or buy another car while the Mini is sorted. Providing the new job starts okay I will do the latter, giving me more time and taking some of the workload off the Mini. I'm amazed it's still working really!

You're right. That's a bit odd >_<

Mine are different to the Rover manual.

If I set mine how the workshop manual says to:

4 3
1 2

It won't start.

Mine was running:

2 3
4 1

And I've just changed it to how it was when I first bought it:

2 3
1 4

And that runs too. I know the system uses a wasted spark, so from a google of tmf it seems I could swap 1 with 4, and 2 with 3, and it would still work.
