And change to Champion plugs - instead of these useless NGKs........ But it IS the choke sticking on - so make sure it goes OFF

Good idea to have a manual. Be careful when taking it apart you don't bend anything... that long brass needle is easily damaged with heavy handedness or slippy out of fingerness and onto floor disease. These sort of things get easier with practice... once you've sussed it, it will become second nature. :dontgetit:

ok thanks ill be very light handed then and will try and not bend anythink

Do as BMC says and get some releasing oil around the choke linkage first and make sure that isn't sticking.

this is a personal preference that should NOT be given as advice, both manufactures make spark plugs that are adequate for the job.
If you've got new NGK's there is no need to go out and by some Champions because some bloke prefers them without having any scientific argument behind him.

If you think it may be the jet sticking, just try pushing the bottom of the jet up to check. And if you do take apart the carb, cleanliness is the order of the day - bits of dirt/grit/whatever won't help the piston rise and fall smoothly. :dontgetit:

Is the jet straight ? as they can easily bend especially if the engine is allowed to rock on to the bulkhead :dontgetit:

Try pulling the choke knob from inside the car, (with the engine OFF) now release the choke knob pushing it in fully and check the mechanism on the carb has it gone fully "home" ie is the choke returning to the off position correctly ?

Danny you have been given good advice on how to fix it, and you feel you dont have the skills to do it (which is fine)

You can not set your mixture on your drive and get it right, you need equipment and know how to do it correctly

Go to a different garage, a mini specialist and pay them to sort it, or better still pay for a rolling road tune
