yeah i found you must thin the paint down as much as possible when rolling it on. im thinning my coats down to about 50/50 now to get a smooth finish. but as i posted above i am now wondering how to get rid of the stroke marks out of the paint and still maintain my satin finish. can i use something like a 3000 wet and dry? or shall i just leave it alone when im done painting?

does it need thinning more in the warmer weather then? 2 or 3 coats then flat back?
on the satin finish......don't take my word as i am not experienced in painting but i was thinking something along the lines of that, i've rubbed a bonnet down with 1200 and it looks smooth but it took the gloss off, maybe wet/dry it but not polish it?

yeah defo need thinning more in this wether. i have found that you get a better finish each time i apply a thinner coat. the first coat i did i went by what it said on the tin and that came out looking terrible! so definitely just use a bit of common and just do what feels right. as for flatting back i have been doing it almost every coat! but thats more down to the fact that satin colors show up every little mark and blemish from the coat before. so with gloss i would do it every 2-3 coats

i've just ordered 2.5l from rustoleum.co.uk,mixed to a RAL code, ordered 250ml of gloss black in case i decide to do the roof aswell. Came to £44 ish with delivery.
In case anyone else is thinking of ordering from them, you need to ring if you are getting colours mixed which arent already on the site, the guy on the phone was very helpful with me :w00t: i'll let you all know when it arrives

Just to follow this up, it arrived this morning

Is that mixed to an automotive colour then? Or is RAL something different?

i think RAL is sort of a universal colour system, you can get it mixed to car specific colours but i think that might be from avenue coatings

New thread sounds like a great idea Ju Boy. There are plenty on here looking at using Rustoleum either by roller or spray so post away please.

Great result by the way, I'll be well chuffed if mine comes out like that, but shiny :D

looks really good

Only thing with Rustoleum is seems you need patience of a saint, 16hrs between coats :D

I've just finished welding most of my floor pan in various places including the heel board, I've sprayed a coat of rustoleum on all underneath, now waiting till I can do another :P
Just went 10% thinners like the can said, sprayed fine, although I was just after getting it on not trying to get any sort of deep shine :)

Ju Boy, that looks awesome! You've done a really fantastic job on that. How much paint did you use in the end?

Yeah, there is a long drying time, which is a shame however at least it's time in which you don't have to do anything :teehee:.
