Not much of a fan of body kits, but this looks lovely, just lovely :withstupid::)
Colour?

Thanks. I wasn't a fan myself and this wouldn't have been my choice of kit either, but it came bonded to the shell I bought and I’ve grown to quite like it. Still have a few changes i'd like to make to it though as I like add my own twist if I can.

I might keep the urban camo look . On a serious note though its going white.... with a slight twist

Have Z's changed their supply of radiators or are you doing some extra charge cooling with the rad?

That is indeed a charge cooler rad; didn't fancy having the i/c in the rear window or where ever z-cars suggested so modified the front frame to accommodate this rad too. Much more stealth my way

Did you get the mirror from the States? I can't find a UK supplier.

The visibility is quite scary, not sure I’ve got used to it yet!

I think it came from Canada if I'm being picky, but they can be purchased from the States too; I actually though it was coming from the states until it arrived.

From memory it came from a golf caddy shop! Looked at quite a few sites to find a UK delivery option that was reasonable!

A few little updates to show what’s been going on; not as much as I’d hoped as the summer rain has meant I’ve been garage bound!!!

The major step was last weekend when I finally managed to get the alignment done; this was long overdue, but I finally managed to sort a day that I could have off, the garage could fit me in and the trailer and van were free to use… not an easy task!

Once this was done I could trial the rear arches as I knew the wheels were in the right place; as it happens they were ok where they were, typical! I don’t have pictures but the side skirts have been extended by about 20mm to accommodate the slightly longer wheel base of the z-car and 2-1/2 of the 4 arches have also been fitted; I hope to finish these off completely this week.

Now for some pictures, everyone loves pictures

The rear of the shell was loose to say the least and needed some extra support to stop it bouncing around all over the place. A metre of 10mm bar, some good old weld and a butane torch later the following emerged from the depths of the garage:-

Quite pleased with how they turned out and I don’t really want to cover them up as I think they look awesome lol. They also add a serious amount of strength to the back; it’s now pretty solid so a good mod to have done.

The next section to finish was the charge cooler radiator mount, I’ve had the brackets designed for a few weeks now, but as I was sizing up a few other parts I put a hold to their manufacture…… Well the other parts have been designed and my “Lasor” guy didn’t let me down and 2 days later I collected the bracket (and a few other bits).

A couple of bollhoffs in some existing holes and it was fitted; still needs de-burring and painting but its fitted and holds the rad solidly – another bracket (less interesting) below the cooler also holds it in place.

I also got these at the same time:-

Posted Image

These are to hold my coolant lines and fuel hoses below the car.

The final update is a new wiper motor, the existing location was potentially going to interfere with something else I have going on under the bonnet and have heard the standard set-up is…. Not exactly great at the best of times! A quick looky on eBay and £14 later a metro mechanism is on its way.

It was 90mm too long (I think) but after a quick chop and weld job the beasty was in; the welding was the easy part though, the bulkhead needed some gentle persuasion to allow clearance, but it’s in and hopefully it will work lol

Posted Image

Well that’s all for now, hope it was of interest to some and tune in again soon….

Oooo bracket porn! :errr: those coolant hose brackets are very nice indeed and clearly not hacksawn and filed :( CNC milled or EDM wired?

Its surprising how much stuff needs to go from the front of the car to the rear, and it seems that it will be quite busy in the tunnel area with loads of P clips, this is a very neat solution indeed

Good work!

Thanks

Most of my thicker bits are cut on a CNC Laser machine; it can cut upto 25mm mild, 20mm st/steeel and 12mm ally so a pretty handy tool to have access too

Anything upto 5mm ally, 8mm steel is cut / punched on a cobination laser punch press; really not sure what I would have done without either of these machines as they have allowed some unusual bits to be made pretty quickly, of which there are more to come O_O

It’s been way too long since I posted an update and although not a lot has happened over the last 6 months; had some issues with her! There has been quite a bit of movement / general progress since my last post.

When I left it last I was doing the first fix I guess, fitting what I can and making sure all brackets and holes that would affect paint were done.

Once again I apologise for the lack of pictures, but the doors were completed (with CF Skins), my carbon bootlid was made and as too was the bonnet and S2000 shorty dash which I’m pretty please with.

The car is now also painted and semi assembled i.e. frames are fitted but no panels as of yet as they’ll simply get in the way whilst wiring which is my current task….. and very boring!

I’ll let what pictures I do have do the rest of the talking:-

Makeshift roll-over jig anyone? This helped no-end and allowed me to paint the underside of the car completely and also the tricky interior bits such as the roof, I used POR 15 paint as it’s supposed to contain good anti-rust / protection qualities:

july2011526.jpg

july2011530.jpg

With that done it was time to seam seal everything possible and prep for paint

The above doesn’t show the entirety of the painting process, didn’t want to bore you any more than I had to, but it was barrier coated, primed, guide coated and flattened, re-primed, flatted once again and then top coated. This took way longer than I wanted, but the weather was the deciding factor and we didn’t have any for ages that allowed me to paint!

The above basically takes her up to the end of last summer, I’ve been working on the rear bulkhead and the wiring as well as the little bits of assembly here and there, but as with any project I keep wanting to add little bits here and there which slow progress at times! The use of switch gear has also added ridiculous amounts of time to the wiring as additional relays and micro switches are required to operate the switches and systems correctly.

So that’s pretty much where I am to date, I’ll try and grab a few more pictures of how she stands this minute, but I generally forget and just crack on!

Before I go I thought I’d share my wheels on here also; they’ve been posted in another section (last year) but not my project thread. Enjoy:-
