NO, not that first time..........

I mean the first time you bought a car yourself, so what was the first car you bought for yourself and what are you driving now?

Have you risen through the ranks from banger to Bentley or (like me) are you still driving much the same thing? :(

My first car, bought when I was 17 with money from 2 part time jobs while I ws at college, 850cc of performance motoring 8-)

(would love to buy it back if it still exists)

25 years later I've got this.........

Not a huge leap forward in 25 years of driving

My first car in 1961 was a 1950 Ford V8 Pilot 3.6 litre flathead V8. Followed that in 1963 with a 1961 Austin Mini 850 and a new 998 Cooper the following year. Then through Cortina GT, Saab 96 V4, Granada 3.0 Coupe, Jag XJ6C to Porsche Carrera 2.7 RS and BMW 635 CSi and a series of 5- and 7-series BMW's for work. Also a lot of Minis during that time from 850 to 1275 'S'.
You never lose your love for the Mini no matter what else you may drive. At one point we had a BMW and a Golf (the road cars for day-to-day), a Rolls Silver Shadow (for doing weddings - my wife's then business), a 911 Carrera and 2 rally Cooper 'S's (a 1275 and a 970 which was my son's). We moved house and only had one double garage, so the Roller and the 911 both went and we kept the rally Minis. Sold the 970 'S' and got lots of other Minis for resto and for fun. Still got 3 in the family filling the workshop, plus a rally Rover 214 Si.

After passing my test in my Dad's fiesta, I promptly bought myself a 1.1 Peugeot 106 XR. It was great. Only cost me £350...

I sold that to buy my first mini, a 998 stage one mayfair. Since then i've had a 998 Park Lane, a 1275 MPi Cooper, a 1275 City E, a fiesta, an escort to name but a few.

Now i've got a tasty 2003 Mazda 6, and Rosie's got a 2006 Galaxy Zetec. an absolutely fantastic combination of cars :(

i can never forget my first drive in it. i loved it. i loved the feeling of being able to get about by myself, not walking to work anymore, being able to pop out for some snack or just for the night time driving around country roads. although the mini now is now a second car lol

First car i bought myself was a MK3 2ltr GT Cortina :( then it had a slight difference of opinion with a chinaman and ripped it in half with me in it. Bugger.
Now driving a 130 tdi Sport Passat which is good for mileage and comfort being an old giffer.

Will be getting a shiney 170 Sport Passat next year, more power plus i need something to tow a car trailer with.

My first car was this mini I bought in 2007. I used to think it was the dogs danglies, but looking back it was incredibly rough around the edges. Still, it was reliable which is all you can ask for!

Then I sold it for far far more than what it was worth, and got this:

Sadly though I now live in London and my Dad gets to drive it more often than me :(

He bought two minis that weekend, said he was going to put an R1 engine in the back...

Edit: It had black Cobra Classic seats with red piping, an alloy look dash, thin red carpet, and a stage 3 998 engine...
