But surely, if theres a battery cut off switch, fuel cut off switch, imobiliser, tracker, tilt sensors, movement sensors etc then there not going to nick it are they? also if its in a garage, ive heard that a baby moniter inside the car and by your bedside so if anyone breakes into the garage you will hear them and run down and smash there lights out with a massivo iron bar :w00t:

thats easy to get round cut the electric suply kills all the power so nothing like that works then cut the brake lines so there is no preassure and can be wheeled back and to sort the tracker all you need is to know were it is an place lead around it lol then of on the low loader or even easyer break in nick the keys and then they are of.

youll never stop car crime what so every as the people that do it are not stupid in that sort of way.

tell the whole world the bast way to do it

hang on ill just start a new thread... ^_^

The idea with the tracker is to not advertise as having one ^_^ so they wont know to surround it with lead and more than likely wont expect one

We fit central locking, and full security systems to Morris Minors and Minis etc. Most people dont carry on with the theft if a 112Db siren is going off. The trackers are linked to 24hr centre who are alerted when the car is moved outside its perimeter, they then contact the police. Trackers are defiantly the way forward.

yeah but with the baby moniter in the car, and by your bed side, you'll be woken by the sounds of them breaking in surely. ANd car crimals only really break into houses if theres a door/window left open in which they can get through. They normally "fish" the keys with a massive pole through the letter box if the keys are left near the front door. So take the keys to bed with u and put them on your cabinet and there safe, also would you really spend the time trying to find the tracker and then going through the hassle of attaching a wire to bypass it?

Also going on what A-Series Spares said about sirens and alarms, how about linking it to an air horn or the like so when the alarms going off they have a extremely loud air horn going off during the night, im sure they would cak there pants and leg it

yes you are right in a way but do you have a pvc front door ? well people can pop them open its scary really.

i personaly think a train horn would be better as if it was in a garage you will sure to have made them deaf lool and that would wake up everyone haha the neibours will get annoyed if it keeps going of tho haha

I just surround mine with bear traps and lasers works a treat! :)
i think the more protection you can get for your mini the better i know abit further down the line il be investing in an alarm and tracker etc.

Pull the fuse for the coil, this will stop most thieves/joyriders/etc. It's free too! Although if a dedicated car thief really wants your car, then they will find a way to take it no matter what sort of protection you have.

been reading topic with interest. i have fitted an alarm to my mini, wired to bonnet, boot, doors. it has the full sensors etc my first worry was the main battery lead. as most peope know it would be simple to just cut this, killing all power to the car. if your alarm didnt have a battery backup, good bye car. I decided to re-route a new cable internal but leaving the old one in place. once im using the car i shall be using a full steering wheel disc lock. the one ive got has been thatcham tested.
the idea of chaining your car up is a good one . my area a few years ago was rife with motorbike thefts and as i had to leave mine outside i made my own security bar.
simple to make. i have inserted a rebar inside the scaffold tube ( all sides) so cutting wont be easy. the poles extend about 3 ft into solid concrete and withstood a landrover trying to pull it out. a good, solid bike chain and lock stopped my bike being pinched.

Sad that our society has come to this point with the need to protect our own property..............back when the Mini was launched in most towns you could leave a car, bike or motorcycle outside your house at night and still find it there in the morning............. :)

Car theft has reduced a lot because security has improved on new cars. Unfortunately our classic Minis are soft targets in comparison, and there's an easy market for parts, clones & exports.

You may not be able to stop determined pro's, but you can deter the joy riders from causing damage with extra locks and clamps and thwart the thieves with an alarm to alert you.

An impenetrable cloaking device is the only answer.

I'll see what we can knock up in lab.

There was a bit on Radio 4, apparently that's becoming reality. All done with magnets - of course.

As has been said, if your car is targeted by a professional thief, theres not a lot you can do stop them.

Stopping the opportunist thief is whats easiest. Alarms, immobilisors, cut off switches, steering locks etc.

Someone in my village had a very valuable e-type, it was locked in a secure garage with the wheels removed and stored in a seperate location. The car was still stolen, and was rolled out of the garage.

The thief was prepared enough, to open the garage without damage, bring along and fit a set of wheels and load it into a transporter vehicle wothout anyone noticing.

Unfortunatly, if they want it, they're going to have it.
