this is one tasty car!! love the old city's, especialy the side decals!

i really like the idea of your intake! i have a pancake filter on mine which i think makes a difference, especialy to the noise :D im in the process of cleaning up some twin carbs i have bought, i dont know how much more power they will give me, but they look cool and will sound sminty!!

May I ask how much you paid for yours?

Thank you for the compliments

paid for my what?? my carbs?? well got em off ebay for about £25 then had to buy a mini manifold which was £20...

just been reading about your insurance... im 19 and when i insured my first mini at the ripe age of 17 i went with footman james classic policy, it was a 998 with centre exit exhaust, 12x5" alloys and mountny sports steeing wheel, cost me £480 third party fire and theft with me was the named driver...... the bean has cost me £512 tpft and he has quite a few more modifications which are all declared, they dont put up the price for cometcics, just engine power, so i could have a rollcage, any wheels/arches, buckets and harnesses, discs up front (if it had drums standard) etc and i would still pay the same price. i sent a detailed list of all the parts i had on the bean as he has some quite rare and original bits....

lol

ill stop talking now... lol

You got the carbs quite cheap then, everywhere I look and also on ebay people want in exces of £50 for them! That quote was the cheapest quote I could get. The thing that really increased the insurance was the arches. They're classed as bosywork modification/bodykit. When really they just cover the tyres to be leagal :D . Really frustrating. I want to get agreed value but unsure if LV do this.

How did you find tuning your carbs bean? Was it fiddly and do you have to constantly adjust them to be correct? Notice any increase in performance from a single carb?

good luck and i hope you get on the road soon

Cheers Bungle, I've bought the insurance now, unsure about the amount of mileage i will cover anuualy, but you can always amend that right?

Went with Liverpool Victoria in the end.

For non standard alloys and exhaust changes the price came to roughly £1600 , you know what boosted up the price a great deal? The arches. They don't like bodywork modifications - if only they could see the Mini for what it really is :dontgetit: Bodywork modifications gets classed as 'bodywork/bodykit mods' even though it isnt a bodykit. So with everything declared, it got to about £1800.

However, with having a family member insured with LV, you get a huge discount. My brother is with LV, and therefore because someone in the family is already insured with LV, i got about £80 discount which isnt bad at all is it!?

Ok, dropping the price even more so, for some reason (God knows why) it helped to add my dad to my insurance. But he is the named driver, I hold the insurance and am the proposer. So that dropped the price abit too.

End price, well... £1730. rounded up. - Not too bad? :techsupport: >_<

Well compared to what I've had. I am very pleased with this quote. Which seems very odd really concidering the amount of it!

Tom

Hiya
been reading your thread and luv the ickle fella ;)
I feel a tad bad for you regarding insurance,it does show what difference age makes though i started driving late in life didnt start till i was 25 and gave up a few times too :(

I used to have a 998 clubman back in 2000 and was paying £250 fully comp at the time i was 10 years older than you but still on a provisional!!! A car ive allways wanted is a ford mustang and i nearly got one just after christmas but it fell though :(
But i now realise how lucky i am as at 36 years old my quote for a 1978 mustang ghia 5.0 was just £300 fully comp on a classic insurance with unlimited milage ;)

So i know its hard but youll just have to bide your time,as soon as you can get classic insurance try footman james they are really good :)

Thesedays i drive a vw golf its a really good motorway cruiser but i really miss my mini so me n my partner are getting another hopefully in time for miniworld action day :)

I say leave your city as it is an 850 as there arnt many good ones left now,yes youve modified it but they are really subtle period looking mods so keep it at that keep your nose clean get your insurance down and get something more commonplace to modify like a late 80,s mayfair and modify that.

To me the early citys are the purest minis ever even the basic early 60,s minis had better seats, carpets trim etc the early citys were pure and simple minimilist ;)

By the way loved your vids makes me just want to get back behind the wheel of a mini again,i used to live on the wirral and recognise some of the places ;)

Hang on in there your insurance will go down eventually, your mini is really gorgeous :)

Huggz
Jodie :)

I had a look on footman james' website then for a quote for classic car, and it said; "Proceed if YES" "Has not been modified from the manufacturer’s standard specification." >_<

Thanks for all of the compliments and you're quite right. Don't worry I'll be keeping the 850.

Read 33 pages absolutely brilliant!

Insurance wise, i cannot stress enough how much Pass Plus saves you. I got my lessons for free through motability to drive my mums c4. I also have 1 years NCB (passed when 17, didnt bother driving till 18!)

When i've come to get quotes for my mini and putting various mods on i've been getting roughly £600 full comp as standard, £750 with CF panels (just ticked a generic box, im actually having front, bonnet, boot and roof) alloys, non standard paint. For another £150 i can get a turbo, still fully comp! Try the post office online, these are where these quotes came from and it allows you to add mods online.

Good luck with the rest of it!

I did a quote with the post office, declared everything but did it one year from now i.e 1 yr NCD

"We have searched through our panel of carefully selected insurers and the best price that we have found is:
£ 1,463.71"

...oh bugger :D

roughly translates as :

" we have checked through our databse of insurance providers and can offer you a quote of £1,463.71,.. we also decided not to show the quotes that are readily available for under 1k, as we're pretending they don't exist becuase we think all customers are mugs' Thanks for your custom"

My grills staying put! (Until someone decides to reverse into me - which is inevitably really!)

Recently I seem to have a knack of pulling over and running back up the road dodging traffic for parts that have fallen off! Twice in a month now, just hope one of them isn't my wheels! ;)

Dude, I must say you're officially a genius. For days now I have been thinking about how to get an air intake pipe and then I see your post about henry the hoover. SO I take a trip down to the tip where I kindly get donated a hoover neck, not as wide as yours but still works really well, perfect fit! In terms of it restricting the engine I think it improves it, seems far more responsive to be honest, maybe better mpg? Heres a pic, thanks again!

Ring up Footman James - their website is pretty useless if you're under 25 and have mods etc - even if you don't you get to the end and they just say call us on this number!

They are really really helpful and very cheap too! :) I got included breakdown cover at no extra cost as well!! :w00t: was well chuffed with that - and I'm 17

Nice car too mate!
