You cannot change the basic laws of aerodynamics.

looks like quite a few people on here have managed it ;)

I wonder if some are confusing top speed with terminal velocity!!!!!!

think some are confusing fantasy with reality if you ask me :(

998 not much been molested.

70-85. 85 on the down hill bits.

the last 1293. 7800 in top on 13`s with a 3.7 diff. Whatever that is. Knew it was knocking out 115bhp before the last bit of work was carried out. Dyno read it at over 130bhp at the fly, i dont see it. 74lbs/ft @ 7000rpm at the wheels so no where near what the guys machine was saying.

Mine was faster before I fitted the stage 1 kit. Does not rev as high in 4 th now, but think that is cause of the stage 2 lcb and 2" bore exhaust, with 3" back box. Tops out at about 85 on the speedo, used to be nearer 95.
Car is much quicker to 60 now though, which means more fun on the back roads.

Car is 25 years old so can easily knock 10% off the speedo figure.

Chap in our club pulls easily to 90mph in a std 998, doesnt lack torque either. Mustve been a sunny day when that engine was built, or the workers at austin/rover got a payrise ;)
Keeps up with my stdish 1275, but not after its been rolling road tuned with the stage one kit :(

My 998 would only just about make it to 70 on a motorway sloped downhill. Piece of turd!

mine will do 85 on flat and off the clock down hill so maby 95/100 but my speedo is slightly oust as im running 13" wheels but wouldn't that mean im going faster than the speedo as more distance is traveled per rotation ? and shes standard ;)

First off can I just say I love this topic!

Ive got a completely standard 998

I got 3 overtakes on the dual carriage way yesterday! Speedo was reading 72mph...

And 72 on the clock was pleanty for me! Wouldn't hear my tunes if I went any faster!

Also my speedo seems fairly accurate at 30, always setting of the stupidly sensitive signs. I imagine at 70, not so accurate.

LOL, maybe it was a Stage -1 kit, and not the Stage one kit youd hoped for when it was advertised? ;)

Good grief the crazies are out in force tonight!!

My 1015cc elf, with 50BHP at the wheels will(on a private test track) do about 95mph(the same as a 1275), a standard (ish) 998 will do about 80-85 tops.

How on earth people are arriving at 100mph+ is unreal!!

100mph no problem in my 998cc Stage 1.

Speaking of stages, I have to do the 100mph in stages, do a 70 first and then a 30. See, 100 easy LOL!!!
