Find out the dimensions of a boot and then ring around all the baby shops and compare them to the dimensions of the buggy folded up.

Also what does mum think about using a buggy for her newborn rather than a proper stroller/pramette?
Mum's opinion is quite important!

Well at that age I'd hardly say what car you're going to be driving in a years time is exactly at the top of your list...

As for the safety thing I wouldn't pay any attention to the whole star rating thing. They test cars at 30 mph into a concrete block. On fifth gear they did a test with a 5 star car at 60 mph into a block and it crumpled up like a tin can. As a lot of crashes involve more than one car the stopping speeds are likely to be higher than 30 mph. Saying that my dad was hit by a car doing 70 into the side of his mini van. Rolled three times and landed on its roof. He is still alive so they hold up in a accident better than you think.
If you want to keep the mini and need to convince the other half just point out that with the expense of the new baby and the stress the last thing you want to be doing is looking for a new car.
By the way. Congrats

she likes mini she has told me not to sell it but if i need to then i will
if you can afford to keep it as a project car, but i'd still buy a safer car too. you need to think of your childs safety, not what you want.
