is it your home or council ?
if its council your drive might be still classed as public high way
you need to check
my mate gets a parking ticket for parking on his own drive as there is a fire hydrant on it.

For the record, unlike TAX, a SORN does NOT carry over to a new owner when a change of ownership is made so you must either immediately tax the vehicle or apply for a SORN in your own name. I know, it's stupid and confusing and I had them sending me letters about a huge fine a few months after I took ownership of my car.
However, I didn't start ranting, raving and shouting. I phoned thme up, explained the situation and the nice man on the other end of the phone made it all go away and he was very pleasant in doing so.
If you chill out and give people chance to explain whats happened, things might go more smoothly. Not to mention, you'll have been having a right old go at some individual who had nothing to do with your car being taken.

handbrake on?
The thing they use to pull it onto the flatbed, damaged steering, arms, front bumper etc.
If they used what the AA us when you break down, then we all know the minis to low for ones of those so they've might of damaged it again
No written warning
No documents
No legal forms saying they can just wonder onto your property etc
I shouldn't tell you to do this, but when you get back, dent it

thats a lovely hefty fine isn't it for doing nothing again?

Are you sure it was the council that took it? Seems highly unlikely since they have nothing to do with the taxing of vehicles. It's the DVLA you're having a gripe with.

I rang DVLA and they didnt have a clue what i was talking about..

I'd be tempted to pay the fine then try and fight it!
Some kind of warning/sticker on the car or something would've been nice first!
How do you know it has been taken by the council?

If your house belongs to the council/housing agents you have to have all vehicles taxed/MOT/insured parked on the property - it is part of the agreement you have with them.
You used to get 7 day notice to move or sort out, sure my mate said now he just gets uplift paperwork and 24hrs to do so.
I have a garage in a block that i rent from council and recently got a letter asking what was in the garage, if you had a car you had to give registration on paperwork.
3 people in the block have had to get out - 2 because of unroad worthy cars and 1 for having a boat on a trailer - you are not permitted to store boats in them.
Worth remembering about this and if you have a lock up and get a similar thing put the details of a road legal car down registered to you.

so what do i do then? my estate is on my drive, sorn though, but has no plates or vins as its currently under going resto. IF they were to take it, what grounds do i stand on?
sorry for the hijack mate
If your vehicle is SORN'd and obviously not going to be used tell them to go away and catch people driving around with no licence, MOT, insurance, tax, etc etc !!!
Unfortunately this probably wont help, but I feel better after my rant!
