You might find a Hif 44 or the hs6 a little too large for a 998, maybe if you were bulding a 1275 plus with a nice head and cam.

And I personally don’t see the point in twins, if set up correctly I can’t see how they would make power over similar sized single carb.

think its personal perfence really isnt it on twins

i love the sound they make when they open up

True, but then there is twice as much setting up and keeping them in tune with each other.

But then I can’t see the point in over-carbing an engine, it will just be running on half choke all the time.

twrminisport - you might want some fuel clips to go on those fuel lines.

yeah the lines are sorted now that was just a first run photo

Twin carbs are better nominally because you get straight lines into the inlet and no bending of the air. This means they are far more effiecient than any single carb setup.
Setting up is abit more of a faf i agree but once they are setup properly then they are fine. Ive had mine on a year and they have NEVER gone out of balance even though i check them occasionally.
HIF44 are used on hot 998's commonly i know someone who has his on a 998 with a 1275 head and it goes nicely so a 998 with a sporty cam in and a decent head could be made to work well with a HIF44.
Its all down the the engine builder and what he is prepared to do and spend his money on.
Lots of different combinations will yeild different results none of which will necessarily be 'better' than another. Twins will give you more torque then a single carb setup anyway but then an sw5 cam will pull from lower down with torquey cruising charachteristics over a Kent 276 with a lumpy idle and pulls from 3k upwards
It's all down to choice really.

Head looks nice, are you going to pocket the block then run this standard or what :D

Yes you will need to pocket the block.
Some people reckon you can use 2 head gaskets and get away with it but i wouldnt chance it :/

That’s just asking for something to go wrong

Although I think I’m right in saying the 1275 head gaskets are slightly thicker than the 998 ones. :D

you should always use a gasket that corressponds to the HEAD not the BLOCK hence it being a head gasket and go for a good quality copper one.
Dont try that trick i dont think it can end well :/

Its amazing how quick surface rust forms. My competition motorbike after i cleaned it at about half 5 in the evening. left it til 9am the next day and the chain was coated in surface rust o.O i think i will lube it instantly in future :/

I might have a few 998 bits if you need mate.
Will possibly have an MG Metro camshaft too, with followers, can't remember whether you said you had one or not but I think I'm going Avonbar Phase 2 in mine so wont need the Metro cam.
I've also got a 12G940 and... best of all... a pair of HS2 Carbs.
Proper pair, with ram pipes, ready to go on.
