Are they a dying breed of cars in this world of high fuel prices

Are they all heading towards the scrap yards?

I'd say that they're not so much of a dying breed as you might think, a lot of big saloons, performance cars, 4x4's etc run V8's Things like the Hemi in Chrysler 300C's run on 4 cyl when just driving normally, then fire on all 8 when you floor it which means they're surprisingly fuel efficient.

Land Rover are using a 4.4 V8 diesel in the 2011 Range Rover, better economy and lower emissions than say the 4.4 BMW V8 that's in mine.

I really hope V8's don't get killed off, I love them, I'm onto my 2nd V8 now, first was twin turbocharged and was brutal, and the N/A V8 in the Range Rover provides a seamless amount of torque and mid range grunt that I doubt a V6 would provide.

It's still more efficient to have a small engine with a low pressure turbo, it's the way most new cars are going. Which I quite like ;)

Ahh yeah, no question, but there's just something about a big V8 that makes me smile. Sensible trousers aside, for me, nothing beats the noise of a V8 at full chat, unless it's an inline 5 pot turbo or V10.

I wouldn't say there's a huge amount of people turboing minis, there's more people making hot rods than turbo minis. So what if he's following the croud with a turbo mini, (having a mini in the first place wouldn't really be following the croud and turboing it certainly isn't) doesn't hide the fact that they're still brillaint and will beat the majority of cars on the road. If I wanted a v8, I would get a capri and drop one in.
A V8 mini would be differnt yes, but I wouldn't make one just to be differnt lol and they're not really my cup of tea, I don't even like tea! ;)

Weekend cars & showcars = fuel prices dont affect them
They arn't daily drivers...They spent 1000's on them, fuel is no biggy.

And the brand new ones are V8s also (the A8 does come in a V6 model also though)

There are plenty of cars out there with V8s. Range Rovers, Land Rovers, Audis (RS4s, S6, RS6, A7) Mercs (E and S class) BMWs (5 Series, 6 series, 7 Series, X5s X6s etc) and more

Thanks.
V6 isnt the same as a V8 though! No compromise!

Im even rather partial to the Audi 4.2 TDI V8 Diesel. Loads of tyre shredding torque!
