obviously i would only get a british, german or italian v8, americans cant build cars or engines with any decent power for their size

How is a 4.7l Mercedes V8 making 430bhp any better than a 7l LS V8 making up to 650bhp in new Chevys?

American V8's are sweet. You're hung up in 60 year old cast iron big blocks of the 7l capacity that made about 250bhp, times have changed, Yank torque hasn't.

You can't get any more american than a V8, so you can't ******* them off. Anyway by "British" V8 I assume you mean a Rover V8, which was actually a 50's design by Buick that never took off in America because it was too puny, yet we Brits used it for 50 years.

by the way, this is my last V8, a Rover that made nearly 400bhp and I built the whole car and engine on about the same budget as my mini.

Americans made the V8 no one else can match the sound of that low down rumble

the rover v8 was designed by GM and the guy from rover seen the blocks sat on side of a dock and got hold of GM and brought the design

story i heard

Straight 6 is where its at

oh oh we got a Beetle oh sorry i ment 911 fan here then ;]

straight 6's are for people who are scared of 2 more cylinders and a nice 60 degree V ;)

(this is my view not insulting anyone :D )

inline 6 cylinder have the best dynamic balancing because the rotation cancels out the vibration and throw from another cylinder.

and alot of v8's actualy use a 90 degree V arangment

shakings not cool ;) doesnt let u rev as high, bit of 9k action's always nice

but of course, i do like the V8 idea and would love an american pickup truck, but id have to throw in a european V8 lump because they, as far as iv seen are just a little better...but depends if i could sacrafice it for a muscle car exhaust tone, there just not the same :D

Rover V8's are an American design ;) . Germans are too reliable so they are boring, Italian are too unreliable, :) and American Big Blocks make a great sound. Just thought I'd say my opinion here :- ^_^

All in all, V8's maybe are dying slowly, just they aren't going to disapear over night because of America and good old English spirit, which cannot be crushed easily :D . Nothing can beat the sound of a blown big block that makes your legs feel like jelly and your trousers change colour :ermm:

My car has a German V8 and it's far from boring :P It makes a hell of a noise under hard acceleration and as bags of torque. It sounds even nicer from outside when you plant the throttle.

You're right about Italian V8's though, that was one of the reasons for selling the Maserati, it was just too damn unreliable, every journey I did in it, I would be expecting a new noise, or a new warning light

Performance wise German stuff is good, they are very good engineers and know their precision machining and all that stuff. I was mainly implying they are boring because they work too well and hardly break down, almost opposite to Italian, so you never have anything to fix on them  . Although I guess that means more time for tinkering power out of them :w00t:

Personally, American stuff is a good balance between this especially due to the cheapness of bits, etc. This also means that 'our' RV8 is good despite its flaws.

I think my brother has 4 RV8's in total dotted around our gargen and garages :) plus all the spares, superchargers and gearboxes :) . Luckily the blocks are lighter (atleast they feel like it) than nad A-Series one.
