I made a point of closing the van and double locking it then asked, "can I help you?" The reply, "got any scrap cable you need rid of mate?" I told them we scrap the cable ourselves so no, they seemed to take offence to that then drove off muttering something and giving me a right dirty look.

Nope, they're exicuting it every time they do similar to what you expirencedpair of gypo's walked into the garage and asked if they could take my force racing wheels for 50 quid each!

They took everything aluminum (a bunch of alfa cylinder heads), gilbern brass fuel tank, a stainless steel mini roll cage, and even the brass tap off the waste oil tank (which luckily had just been emptied).
Bloody scum should all be shot.

i would love to scare them off by screwing a silencer to a pistol and asking "can i help you gentlemen?"
we had a guy come to work who didnt mind being called pikey pete, who used to take the knackered motors off us and didnt seem to care that they had spent most of
the time down a well on landfill, and would also buy cable off us for descent money.
also had a scrap man round the corner from us who pretty much minded his own buisness and you could go take your scrap and drop it off on his drive and was a fairly pleasant bloke,
