Where this overlaps is in normal conversation or in written form where there is not a limit on space. In these instances, the use of pre-adolescent wannabe American rapper language is either indicative of utter laziness, a lack of education or an attempt at being "street". All of which make the perpetrator appear "a bit of a to55er" (old English colloquialism meaning an idiotic fool).

Text speak has a place - text messages. Specifically where you don't want to use more text characters than necessary and abbreviation is required.

I couldn't believe that I could actually understand what I was reading. Using the incredible power of the human brain, according to research at Cambridge University, it doesn't matter in what order the letters in a word are, the only important thing is that the first and last letter be in the right place. The rest can be a total, mess and you can read it without a problem. This is because the human mind does not read every letter by itself, but the word as a whole. Amazing, huh? Yeah and I always thought spelling was important! See if your friends can read this too!
I can raed btoh, and so can ervey one esle.... wr'ee all hpapy!

That is very strange, but i think the topic here is text speak rather than mis-spelt words. Im 17 and i hate texting it is most time consuming and annoying thing i have ever had to do if anyone texts me i ignore it and ring back. Text speak i cant stand it dosent look right and it take me ages to decipher whats been wrote. Use english words please.

Everyone slips up from time to time, but there is no need for it post after post.
And I completely agree, I was on tour with this lass who used to say "OMG", "ROTFL" and the like, when text speak breaches the spoken word barrier it is disturbing!
