Its the satisfaction of having a 998 that's quicker than a 1275.

To get a 998 faster than a 1275 you ll have to do a lot.. If you have a normal non economy 1275 you start with around 60 bhp, most people have a stage 1 fitted to that... Gl getting that on a street 998. My 998,12g295 ported head, 643 cam, weber 40,... Will have had that probably, absolutely not an everyday car :)

Took both my brothers 1275 and my 998 to the rolling road and mine had more power, and wasn't modified "too" much lol

But how did the torque curves compare, as that is what gives the acceleration (or lack of it).
People measure the wrong thing. It's the torque which counts, unless it's a competition car where a few bhp will lower a lap time slightly.

Both the 998 and the 1275 had the same high end torque but the 1275 had an even increase in torque as the revs increase but the 998 was flat then steep in the higher rev range.

Pointless comparison without running same gear ratios, diff, wheels and tyres as its torque at the wheels that counts, obviously a bigger bore should make better power and torque though.

Personally I prefer the way a small bore engines revs and drives

I'm currently building a new engine and massing parts for my fast road 998. This is the list as it currently stands:

Owned

998cc engine with a X pin diff

12G295 Cooper head

Garrett T2 Turbo

266 cam

1:3:1 roller rockers

Brake servo

998cc dished pistons

To Buy

Mirage motorsport manifold OR Metro turbo mainfold (I don't want to modify the bulkhead but I will if necessary)

All the metro turbo bits for fuel, carb, regulator etc.

Intercooler and parts

Dump valve and fitting kit

Eventual Goals

Lightened crankshaft

Overbored +20

Omega forged race piston, dished +20

Forged con rods

With the setup (excluding the eventual goals) I really want to hit the 100bhp mark. I'm hoping to have it all fitted, tuned and running by L2B. The other stuff can come later on... :D and then I hope to be running more... How much bhp I'm not sure lol

Very similar to my build!!

Good luck with it and don't under estimate the amount of work that needs doing haha

With the manifold I'm pretty sure mirage don't sell them anymore, I had to speak to matty over on turbominis and he made me one.

And make sure you design the oil drain correctly I had a ball ache with trying to get mine to drain with the mechanical fuel pump hole, ended up having to drill the gear box and weld a boss on to it.

Have fun!!!
