A few week's ago I bought a mini project car,i have no mechanical background what so ever and even tho im 29 ive only been driving 1 year...eeek

The reason i went for this mini over other's that came with nice interior ect is that this one doesn't need any welding (apparently),when the time come's i will learn to do it myself,plus the fact i spent all my money on the mini...lol

Basic order of thing's i want to do are,strip and prep ready for a respray,get some alloy's with sport's pack arche's,figure out what suspension setup i want,get some decent seat's ect,the engine will be out the whole time for a rebuild.

Today i took out the interior,glass,door's/boot/bonnet.






One of the door's has a slight bit of rust.





I want to fit carbon door's eventually so how much do you think mine are worth?

Now for some noob question's

What's missing from the grill and why doesnt it fit? Look's like there should be more chrome around the outside and none of the hole's match up to the one's on the front end.




What is the coating all over the floor? Some has come off and i want to sort it.




The steering wheel is off center,any clue's? lol

Floor looks tidy. The coating is just sound proofing and u can chip it off to save a bit of weight if you want.

My steering wheel is off centre too, I'm pretty sure it's normal!

You're missing the chrome surround to the grille.

I thougt there was some chrome missing...lol,not to fussed as the grill will be either carbon or one painted black in the end.

I decided to take a look under the bonnet and with the help of Mr Hayne's i noticed there was no alternator or windscreen wash res,I rang mini technique and i can have whatever is missing when i need it

After looking at the hayne's book for a little while i decided to start and strip the engine bay.

Drained the oil and this is what ive removed so far




Now the engine bay look's like this




Ill have another go later on and see what else i can remove

looks good project you have there , now iv nothing against mini technique but he sure knows how to charge!!! just make sure you go with a price in mind

what are your plans for it big power or just get it looking nice and running!!!

I paid £1500 for that but i think that's pretty good considering all the welding has been done,he bought it as it is then sold it to me.An as i plan on doing as much of it as i can i should only be paying out for paint and head work hopefully

The plan for now is rebuild the 998 and get it runing sweet,then either make it faster or fit a 1275 and go from there.

Option 3 is keep the 998 standard and save for a few year's and do an R1 conversion...lol.This will prolly never happen as i want to fit carbon door's,front end boot and some other bit's,more for the rust free benefit's really.

How much do you think my door's and boot are worth? The bonnet has rust underneath so i doubt ill sell that on.

Managed to remove some more bit's from the engine bay today,with more help from Mr haynes I should be able to get the engine out over weekend so long as i can rent an engine crane.

Yeah bend at the knees or use a hoist.................

We bought a shell with all the welding done last week,

I have just found out the door dont fit properly because of bad welding of the A pillars,

My advice to you is make sure all the doors, bonnet and boot fit before you start prepping for paint.

All the problems we have are with new panels the prvious owner put on

All the door's were in place when i got it,the hinges were loose but the fit looked good,the gaps down the side of the bonnet were not perfect but they were ok,and seeing as im not looking for a show car im not to fussed

I picked up the engine crane tody and my mate is coming round tonight to help me with it so i should have an update at some point

Couldn't get the drive shaft's out so we tried to take the hub's off and couldnt get them off either.Should the shaft's pop out or toward's the engine?

When I removed my engine the shafts just pulled out away from the engine. I released the ball joint so the disk dropped and was hanging on the brake pipe (wise to use some rope to take the weight of the hub)

That's what we tried but i dont have a ball joint separator and couldn't separate the top or bottom with ham fisted method's lol

Although i dont have time to do anything yet as ive gotta pick my lad up from football in an hour my itchy trigger finger's got the better of me...lol



I thought the tool had broken when i heard a massive crack...lol,no wonder i couldn't get it off last night hehe.

How far should the shaft come out? And how does the hub release?

Should have another update at somepoint tonight
