All looks good! Big valve head on a 1380. NICE!! Should get the chambers measured and see if it will take a slight skim.

Edit: Cant really tell because of the carbon, but it looks like those chambers have been smoothed . You may well have a very nice head there.

i hope i do, but i will bring it to paul ince and see what he has to say about it in the next few days and see what he assesses the engine as, but it appears to be a 1380, and dont really know about the 12G940 head, need to do some cleaning...

cheers mate.

one never knows until u jump head in

in one of the magazines recently (mag or world) there is a topic about 12g940. im sure it says that these are early leaded heads and the 940b is the later unleaded heads. hope this helps.

12G940 is the name of a casting pattern used to produce a wide variety of large bore A series heads. What head it actually is cannot be determined from the number, it depends on how it was machined. Since it looks like it's been worked a little already what it started life as wouldn't really be relevant anyway.

When yo usay polish, I hope yo umean the outside and not the bores >_< Which would be a very bad thing indeed, the honing process gives the surface a controlled roughness that allows oil to lubricate the rings as the pistons fly up and down.

Well I mean hone the bores wich then cleanes the bores.(polish....well it looks polished) when its freshly honed.

just by looking at the pics its plain to see its a mess...I do not know how much he'd payed for it....unless it was FOC.......and it would cost a few quid to get it back to a usable engine........If he saved up a bit more he could of got a half engine kits for £900 full kits from £1400.............and its NEW............ >_<

no no i wasnt polishing the bores... haha that would not be good but i did clean the head today a bit and found some of the valves were pitted a bit but the 12G940 looks much better now.
