:w00t: Iv just had enough does anyone else just feel that the car they once loved is now just a waste of time and money iv owned a mini now since june it was my first car the only car iv ever owned and iv just come to the end of my limits with the car.

So far it has cost me altogether about 3000 i will only get half of that back when i sell it if that its broke down seval times iv missed out on loads of things because of it not getting me there.

it has nearly killed me in possible crashed on motorways twice once due to the stearing rack going on me then the day after i got it back from that work being done the differential gear went into the casing and locked up the wheels causeing me to miss out on half of my 18th birthday party becasue i couldn't get home.

thats my rant about minis over im getting rid and buying a normal safe car that will not try and kill me.
cheers mini dave

I can help you out with the Diff... but most of the time its down to the initial purchase and having someon who knows minis with you..

Don't dispair, they are essecitally all 40 year old cars and need caring for.. you can't treat them like a modern car or they will complain.

IMO, if your not prepared to get down and dirty with a mini, then they will cost you.

agreed. i had a mini 3 years ago and just complained. it broke down loads, cost me loads, but to be honest i wasnt getting my hands dirty and was driving it like it was a brand new car. at the end of the day they need looking after a driving properly. i always regretted getting rid of my first mini, and have just purchased a second mini. but this time round my hands are dirty (although at the same time i do have the benefit of a company car).

On the point of cant drive it like a new car its only a 96.

Also on the point of getting your hands dirty. i try to do as much work as posible with it the problem is i live in halls of residence and the only place i have to do the work is the side of the road with the limit of tools you can carry in the boot of a mini lol

I thought it was closer to 50 years? Says something though, having a design that old and STILL going. How many of these new cars will last dat long?

I'd like to agree, but to be fair the newer cars will probably last a lot longer due to new technologies meaning less rust, wear and tear. :erm:

Any car can fail, older ones just need more attention, worn bushes etc.

I would rather replace a subframe on a mini then have a volvo ecu fail without warrenty. £lots of cash to fix.

That still makes it a 10 year old car, its not like its nearly new.
I've had evil thoughts like that but they qucikly dissapear once I get my Mini down a fabvourite stretch of road, or when people stop and ask you about it becasue they are legendary cars.
Modern, reliable, safe cars are plain dull and drive even worse with too much power assisted rubbish and they are too heavy.
When Minis break down (which is a fair bit, I concede that) they are cheap to repair.
When a modern car breaks down, which they do do, they are expensive to repair.
If you sell it and buy a eurobox or something, you'll regret it.
If Mini owners had £1 for everyone who says "I had one, wish I didn't sell it" we'd all be millionaires.

god i drive these things almost everyday, they are maintance based cars which means they require maintance, however get a well looked after car and look after it, it will look after you, i used to do 25,000 miles a yr in a mini down country lanes with one throttle position basically on, changed the oil every 3 changed everything else like plug every 6 and it let me down once due to a flat battory, however i looked after it.

trouble is if u need to pay someone like me to fix it sometimes it costs a lot if its not been looked after, but when they are sorted they dont cost very much atall to run
