How do you actually mount the dashboard to the dash rails?
I'm fine making it and putting gauges in, it's mounting it on the dash that has me bamboozled.

Do you have dash rail covers?
Normally there is 2 blocks of wood / piece of metal that is piverted on the back which you turn to lock the dash against the dash rail covers. You reach behind through the glovebox / air vent. It can be tricky!
But ive seen ones that have been subtley screwed in place before.

Elmo is right and you can buy these on Ebay for uber cheap such as here:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Classic-Mini-Dashboard-Dash-Fitting-Kit-FRE-Instruction-/130586663039?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1e6792587f
There are also ones that use blocks of wood which you attach to back of dash with threaded bolts out the back which you attach to u shaped bits of metal to hold in place.
If that doesnt make sense can draw a picture or get a pic

Very nice work. Did you ever figure out what glovebox knobs your going to use. The reason I ask is because I have to replace the ones on mine because one is missing. I came up with a cool idea. I'm going to take a pair of Mini Air valve caps and fill them with solder then drill and tap a screw into them. Then mount them as knobs for the doors on the dash. That way I'll have a chrome cap with the mini logo on it.

Sounds like a brill idea!! Dont know if question was aimed at me or not? but ill answer anyway just incase hehe
I used 13cm ones. I believe you can fit 15cms in... just.

If I'm thinking on the right track, you could even place two metal brackets at the back of the dash like in your diagram, weld some nuts onto it and put some recessed bolts in the dash that bolt into the brackets. This would mean it would look the same after being covered with vinyl or whatever, but be a lot easier to fit.
Cheers ,

It's a good job too because I was getting fed up of burning my fingers with the hair dryer . I'm still not sure whether I like it though...
