I have briefly mentioned my project before but this will now be the up to date thread on how things are going. ( Here goes )

I recently bought a Mini Thirty ( Special Edition ) 998 for £450 from my dads friend with a whole bunch of extras including a 1100 engine and a spare head.
It also came with new discs,Calipers,Carb,Loom,Lights, boot lid and a shed load of other parts

Here is the car as i bought it ( Bar bonnet and wheels )

The engine runs well ( Just ignore the rust ) and i will be taking it out to paint.
Posted Image

Doors are past re skinning so i will be buying some better ones.

The boot floor is in excellent condition ( Only has some slight surface rust )

You say the doors are past reskinning, how bad are they. The ones we had for Project Erm were bad needing new skins new bottoms various repairs etc. Unless the basic structure is totally shot then they will be repairable.

Even buying "Good ones" you dont really know what you are getting unless you strip them right back to bare metal and have a good look inside the door.

I've bought some more doors on eBay already and the description said they need re skinning and they were as described, All they need is reskinning so there the ones I will be using.
The doors that are on the car are shot all the frame is heavily corroded

Quick update on what I've been doing recently .

Today me and my dad lifted the engine out by hand ( No lifts or hoist what so ever ) which was fun.

Then we took the sub frame out which was easier than i thought it was going to be.

Then got to work cleaning it up -

I will be respraying it tomorrow.

Watch this space for more updates.

I haven't updated in a while ( If anyone is even following ) so here is what i have been doing recently .

This is the 1100 engine that came free with the car and i thought i would give it a clean up and paint and try and get some money for it.

Posted Image

Here it is after i painted it. I think it came out pretty good. I managed to get £175 for ( Very happy ) it and that went in to the project budget.

Posted Image

I stripped down the radiator cowling ( Forgot to take a before photo ) and primered it ready to be sprayed blue.

Posted Image

Im now waiting for parts to arrive before i can go any further which include -
LCB Manifold, Sportex centre exit exhaust, Mini speed inlet manifold, Blue silicone hoses, Radiator,Full set of Gaz shocks, Full set of bushes

I would love to know what everyone thinks off my project and if they have any tips or advice for me so don't be afraid to share your opinions ( That is if any one is actually reading this )
Thanks again, Andrew

Project looks good mate, looks like it has the same amount of howls that my last mini had.

Keep it up.

if it works strip it, box all the parts and give it a decent wire brush up.

but if you really want to get a new 998 they are as cheap as chips at the moment compared to the 1275 engines. you could pic up a good runner for sub 200. :P
