if you want an honest fix. hang an american flag on your house. they know not to mess with us. I wont go into detail but lets just say they have learned thier lesson. They may not think british law applies to them. But americans have an unncanny habit of thinking that american law still applies to them.

Do you have a motion sensor (PNR) light at least? Trouble is, my guess is they will prob come along during the day when they think people will be at work?

Not just because your at work but also for them to lift it onto a truck and drive away will make passer bys and neighbours during the day think they are from the council and are removing it, a few high vis vests and jackets aint hard to get

I'm guessing most of your neighbours know about the shell just sitting there and unless you pop round and give them a heads up they would just think its being taken away due to neglect etc, unless you don't get on with your neighbours it'll be worth popping round just to let them know and be on there own guard, pop a short note through the door, either way the more people around you that know the better untill you can move it yourself or get on with the work with the shell

When I went jet skiing (this was like 10 years ago) we had an alarm 'cable' we would wrap around the ski overnight and a motion sensor alarm around both skis so you couldn't get close, motion sensor had a nice bright LED light and a seriously loud ear piercing wrenching sound

If you can get a car cover on yours and a couple of cables they should reach enough to secure the cover down

Yeah thats true. I heard of that scam happening a fair bit. They even had council written on their high vise jackets when there was a spree of it here in London last year. I remember they were going around taking cars claiming to be from the council if anyone asked and weighing them in at dodgey scrap yards (I remember reading that the scrap yard was in on it)

So its very clear in the rules about comments such as yours. Yes its a public forum but there is no need to say what you did. Would i have taken umbrage over what you stated yes i would have especially if of a certain age that was directly or indirectly affected by what happened during WWII.

I could go on here about all of this but i will not. This thread was meant to highlight an issue that the OP has and not to be turned into something other than that.

Joking aside about the large red print its to ensure that everybody is aware about the rules of the forum. This thread is starting to spiral to a bad place which is not the original intent by the OP.

If members can offer good advice without resorting to anything that infringes the rules then that's fine. Rules are there for a reason and not to be abused.
If the rules do not suit people then they have choices. This forum caters to a large cross section of ages, sexes, different cultures etc so we should be able to have a decent approach to everyone.

None of us are perfect far from it but we as moderators try to keep the forum as fair as possible. Some people see this as interfering but if there was no moderation it would turn into a massive free for all.

That's it from me i will now but my box away for the moment and i hope the OP gets the answer he really needs.

I'll stand up for wolfie as I know he is a stand up guy and a top bloke.
Perhaps the wording could be a little better but I think we all know he is referring to the dishonest side of the travellers that have been given the name Pikies. I dont think he is genralising all travellers, but just refering to the dishonest, thieving gits that have been given the name "pikeys" And I agree with him, the people who do live by their own laws (ie no laws at all) and wont abid by any authority or recognise any goverment are scum. Its barbaric how they live as you cant have civilisation without law and order.

I also dont think you can call his remarks against pikies as racist, seeing as a pikey is the term given to a person making their living from grifting and illegal activity. they arent a recognised people (unlike gypsies) its just a term given to describe that kind of person who wanders through life making money out of illegal activity.

I for one know Neil WOULD stand up to pikeies to stop them stealing from his friends and neighbours, and unfortunately i dont know many people that would.

to be fair that epetition is spot on, im not saying travellers or gypsies or whatever are always responsible for stealing scrap metal, because when a nice mini shell, or man hole covers arrive at a scrap dealer and the scrap dealer buys the scrap, he should be fined or charged for accepting the scrap knowing it has been stolen or is council property, but i think if scrap was monitored better, and a home/company address and ID had to be proved when weighing in scrap, i think alot of the sneakyness can be eliminated

or even make it so that when cars are handed in as scrap a certificate is provided from the dvla that the car is officially due for scrapping maybe after the log book as been sent off or what ever

as for the car, i would ask your neighbours to pay close attention to the car and remind them that its not being scrapped or moved or anything other than what YOU do to it yourself, so if anyone is seen lurking then hopefully they will tell you, as for lock and chain, id find a welder to make something up that would go through the body itself that would literaly need a grinder and cutting disk to take off, and make any bolts/ locks awkward to get to with bolt cutters like padlock housings on containers

some steel box section or something wouldnt be hard to get hold of and anchor it either end through the car ( if its a shell with no doors) make it bloody awkard for them to get to

or, find a property services and rent a lock up garage, the one mine is in has huge gates, is out of sight and has cctv and also backs onto the owners back yard

I don't think theres anything wrong how wolfie worded it or how he put it down or who it was referring it to? as he clearly points it toward "pikies" I'm not sure if people are thinking he just said its a shame that EC is outlawed, that would be alot different but he didn't, he referred it towards who we call pikey, not every traveller or gypsy is a pikey, like you say its a name given to the 'dishonest' ones, one of the guys I used to work with was a traveller and he's a nice guy, still see him in the local, he's not a fan of the the pikey tag but he's never given me any reason to think otherwise so I don't look at him as one, he certainly hasn't offered to patio my driveway yet

I thought to legally scrap a car you were meant to show the V5 to the scrapyard? I did about 10 years ago when I scrapped my Astra. They stamped it so I could send it off to the DVLA and that the DVLA knew it had been scrapped. I take it this isnt the case anymore?

I dropped off some bits to the scrappies yesterday, old batteries and some mangled mini bits that weighed a bit, I say scrappies as I went to three, first two just said "just chuck em on the scales" not the scales for the bigger trucks but the smaller ones for small fry stuff, third one asked for ID before they went on - he got my business, will this help towards making the scrappy business more legit I don't know? the same guy could be in on the act and scrapping stolen cars? all I know is I feel better for it, the first two put me off
