does anyone know how to lighten your own flywheel? it will be done on a lathe and then balance i just want to know where do i take the metal off and how much before it gets dangerous?
also how can i balance the con rods? can i just use a die grinder and take metal off? if so i take it il be taking it off the middle long stem -bit-.

but i thought you could balance the con rods yourself? i saw it in an old janspeed VHR and it looked about as complicated as taking a dump? i think il have another watch...

I would send the crank, rods and flywheel off to get balanced together. Im sure you can lighten your own flywheel if you have a reasonable knowlege of what your doing. but as far as the rods and crank go....Send them to the pro's....No dissrespect to your own skills, but If it were my engine doing 6500revs im prety sure id want it bang on!.
As Andy says, let the pros do it.
Getting everything balanced is extremely important, i wouldnt even consider taking material of f the rods and id probably save my money up and buy an ultralight flywheel. A billet steel one would be ideal!

anyway, i got some electronical bits today, i got an ignition switch and an engine push start, this is going to be a very different modification, its going to look awsome 8)
i have been told by our engineering shop that balancing and lightening conrods is a simple process, if the right tools are in place, ie electronic scales, die grinders ect, and he told me where to do it so by a couple of weekends it should be done and the bottom end off for the final balancing!
then comes the cylinder head 8)
