But guess what...the most people that crash over there are English!
It is dangerous, and creating something like the ring would be absolutely impossible, nevermind being a stupid idea. It is a petrol heads dream place, but I really do think a lot of it due to the history and what has happened on the track known as 'Green Hell'
If you want to go on the 'ring go over there, but creating it over here just wouldn't work.

im sure Nigel Mansell mentioned the BRDC were looking at bring back the Birmingham GP, im all for that but not biased. We are one of the few countries which does not allow road closures for motor sport. If we could achieve that a lot more top-level rallies and hill-climbs could be held with affordable costs for competitors. Apparently the problem is that it's not possible to remove the statutiry speed limits on a temporary basis.
What we should be petitioning for is the sort of road closure orders that they have in France, Belgium, Ireland and Italy, etc.

In 1985, the Birmingham City Council passed the Birmingham Road Race Bill, which allowed the Birmingham Superprix for Formula 3000 cars to be held on a circuit of closed streets near the city centre for two days during the August Bank Holiday. Previously, all motor racing on the public streets of mainland Britain had been outlawed (unless specifically allowed for in private legislation).
The first Superprix was held in 1986 and was subjected to torrential rain. After extensive delays, this first race was run to a reduced distance. Over the next few years, races featured numerous accidents and the excessive noise over the course of the weekend proved to be unpopular with some members of the local community. The races were also commercially unsuccessful, so for 1991 plans were proposed for the race to be organised privately on an extended 3-mile circuit. However, these plans were never implemented and the race was dropped from the calendar. At present, the Birmingham circuit remains the only street course to have been established on the British mainland.

OOps.
I do love the Ring.
Hey hey sailor
Might want to re word that:P hahaahh

I once got called a Nazi by an old woman (I say old, probably 60s) because I was talking about this with a mate in the shop where I worked. I was merely saying that yes while I accept there were many bad things, he did revive the economy and got Germany back up and running after the horrendous recession.I seem to remember another famous german using building roads as a method of beating recession!?!
Worked for him, get the unemployed employed and motivated.
Its a valid way of helping with the recession.
So yeah, let's go and build some roads!
In some ways I think it is a shame that there aren't street circuits in the UK, but I think too many people would complain about it. With Europe, its always been around, its a part of the way things are. Although there is a lot of support for motor sport in the UK, I think there are more people that would strongly object to their road being closed for racing.

didnt you see james may do it with a scalectrixs? he did the full size circuit following original layout. Can I vote for rebuilding the Brooklands Circuit (if only just to annoy the hell out of Tescos, Mercedes, Argos & BAE systems who might become slightly isolated in the centre of the track...
)?
I'd love to see it restored anyway...

Besides this point it seems this is a very poorly reasearched idea. Unless we use the prisons as a means of Slave labour. if this is added to the petition i'm more than willing to vote for it. get them scum bags doing something. same goes for the people 'seeking Jobs'. lol

90% of formula one cars, are built in England, we still have some of the worlds best.i'm not 100% sure but wasent the original Nurburgring built to show off German Pedigree and engineering excellence something England certainly lacks in the world of motor sport. What cars are actually British these days? granted we have a couple of decent drivers. Perhaps if we built this thing 70 years ago we would still have a car industry.
