The route goes down the M23 doesn't it?

You can't drive on the motorway as a learner!

Drive down the layby then >_<

I must be missing something, because I thought the route from the M25 past Gatwick was on the M23

I don't think so!!

Whilst a load of people do go off down the M23, as far as I'm aware most people keep to the scenic/non motorway route along the A23, as it winds it's way through Redhill and Crawley, before meeting up at the end of the M23 near Pease Pottage.

In fact I'm not actually sure which of the two is the official route!!

Taken from the offical website...

Q. What route will the rally take?

The official route is via the A23, although many do use the M23 - and any other route you can think of! To see the official route on a map go to www.tinyurl.com/L2Brouteif you visit the news section of our website you can also download the route as a TomTom Itinerary and put it straight into your satnav. We strongly suggest that if you are unofficially participating that you consider joining on-route rather than outside Crystal Palace Park as this year it will be very busy. The run starts at 8.00 am and the last cars leave Crystal Palace at around 10.15 am.

My dad and I are doing this for the first time in my 1990 mini mayfair, I'll probably be driving but as I haven't passed my test yet (I'm only 17) he'll be alongside me! Any tips!?

Oh I have no idea! I might not drive the whole way anyway... we'll see! My dad is happy to drive if I can't :D

It all depends how near the front you want to be!!

Even if you arrive first thing on the Sunday morning, then your going to automatically be behind all those that camped overnight and put there cars in line on the Saturday night before they went to bed. Check the times on your ticket, but don't the gates open at around 6am on Sunday morning (and from memory cars start tend to start arriving and waiting outside before that). So if you want to be somewhere near the front, then you really need to be arriving when the gates open. If you don't mind being one of the last to leave and not getting to Brighton until the afternoon, then you can probably get there nearer 8am.

Thanks.. On the paper that came with the ticket says gates open at 5am so i might leave to be at CP for that time.

No worries, now I think about it the last time I camped at CP, I seem to recall that it was still dark when the cars started arriving in the morning, so gates opening at 5am would actually make more sense!! :shy:

From what I recall, the cars on the club stands and the concourse sections at the Brighton end, actually set off from Crystal Palace ahead of the rest of the standard entrants, so that they can get set up before everyone else starts arriving.

Apparently the main run starts at 8am this year, (although I'm fairly sure that it has started at 9am in the past), in which case you should expect people to start arriving in Brighton from around 9am onwards (with the show cars arriving even earlier)...
