Defensive driving is the only way to go in a Mini. Too many people think it's right to do 40 in 30 zones these days. I live in an area filled to the brim with Range Rovers (pimpmobiles), and Audi's with their shiny eyebrows. They're all quite prone to driving up my arse on a regular basis. Fit a third brake light, then dab the brakes. Sorts them out. Failing that, buy an abusive rear window sticker.

Don't give up driving your Mini because of this! The more Minis we have on the road, the more we can get our own back when we completely clog the roads on massive Mini runs :D

it is after all my choice/freedom as to how fast I want to drive.

Good luck giving that excuse to a police office for speeding.

I dont seem to get this type of thing as much as some of you guys - been driving 1 1/2 years now and have only reached boiling point (gestures at the other driver/yelling at them if we both stop a set of lights :S ) twice. If some one tailgates me when im doing the limit, I slow down until they stop it or overtake. Otherwise, I just keep my wits about me and keep calm if someone does something stupid (usually by thinking how lucky I am to own a Mini; always makes me smile :D )

I think it's everyone's choice how they wish to drive so long as they are putting the other road users safety first. If you want to drive at 20 mph that's fine just don't decide to pull out onto a dual carriageway in front of someone expecting it to be okay when you don't stick your foot down or it's fine if you want to travel to the speed limit just don't bully the other drivers by tail gating them if they choose to drive a little slower. Drive to the conditions of the road and remember, very few accidents caused by reckless driving only involve you and your car. Think of the others, and their loved ones!

A lot of people seem to have the 'must get past' mentality when they see a Mini - regardless of the fact that the Mini may actually be going faster than they are! I've lost count of the number of times I've seen someone pull out to overtake me, before they realise that they are actually going slower than me and pull back in.

One time I was driving down a dual carriageway at a steady 70mph. A car joined the dual carriageway from a slip road just behind me, and immediately moved to the outside lane to overtake. It slowly creeped past in the outside lane, it must have taken it a good two or three minutes to actually get past me (I was still doing 70mph, I hadn't speeded up at all). It then pulled in front of me where it slowed down to about 60mph. I immediately pulled out and overtook it - still doing the same speed of 70mph. Within 10 seconds the other car was a tiny speck in my wing mirror.

On another occasion I was on a dual carriageway, overtaking a long line of lorries at about 70mph. This idiot in a white van came right up behind and tail gated me, obviously trying to get me to go faster. So I did the opposite and slowed down to 60mph just to annoy him. Once I was past the lorries, I moved to the inside lane and put my foot down. Me and my Mini sped off into the distance, leaving white van man miles behind, still in the outside lane looking really stupid.

Its not a mini thing ...the bully boys in big cars treat ALL small cars with disdain

Its an insult to their masculinity to sit behind something smaller. Cars have always been a 'pizzle' extension to certain types

Their egos cant cope with it

So big car, tiny "pizzle". Tiny car, enormous....sense of satisfaction?

Round here, where it's mainly narrow country lates, it seems that the worst combination possible is recently retired people in new (meaning 10 or 11 plate) cars. The level of timidness they exhibit for what is probably the last car they'll ever buy "new" is unbelievable. Purchasing a new vehicle should not mean that you automatically knock 10mph off the speed you would otherwise be going.

This is closely followed by the blinkered drivers that can only do 40 - no matter what the road or conditions. I will never understand drivers that do this.

to be honest I can't speak about the abuse mini-owners receive as I still aspire to be one (not long now hopefully...) - and of course I just smile when I see one out and about and wouldn't dream of wishing them ill or behaving like a loon. Generally the minis around here tend to be driven by lads in their teens or twenties, and as a result are amongst the fastest moving traffic on the road.

I have no issue with people that drive the limit (and the conditions), but I can't abide dodderers. I'm not advocating anything unsafe, but if you're doing a steady 35 on a 40, I'll be round you on the first clear straight. There's no 'car pecking order' or etiquette behind it - I'm just trying to get somewhere.
