I guess this is where I'm one of the few lucky ones. Because the Classic Mini is so rare here in the U.S. most people slow down to check it out. Plus around here most roads have 8 to 10 lanes and slower vehicles ride to the outside lane. It's pretty much understood the inside lanes are for faster travel and usually most people are pretty compliant.
However I understand the tailgating thing. I also ride a motorcycle. For a while I used to be the Tailgunner for a club rode with. Basically the guy at the back of the pack that secures the lane changes so everyone ahead can get over safely.
I'd have 3/4 ton 4x4 trucks riding my backside while we are clipping along at 70mph. I've even had on an occasion or two, someone tap my rear fender.
Not all the time, but every once in a while you'd get the yahoo who just has to be a total DB and they'd do it on purpose. (like previously said "Lil Man Syndrome") Now I don't condone nor recommend it, but extra sparkplugs in the vest pocket or some steel ball bearing seem to work well to rid of tailgaters when they accidentally fall out of your pocket. They also make quite a noise in an engine bay too.

You'll get a lot of idiots driving up your arse, because people just assume the mini is slow. But unlike them, you can drive along knowing you're driving a piece of British history, and an amazingly cool car, unlike them in their crummy, common little French hatchbacks! Don't ditch the mini

Classic example just a minute ago on the way home from college, white work little astra van behind me laughing and pointing whilst we were going through a single bit of coned off lane, was following a lorry so was doing about 50, perfect time to drop it into 3rd, came out the roadworks bit and shot off and they looked a bit shocked, they eventually caught up at the roundabout approach, and then I think they were impressed how fast I got around the roundabout because after that they drove along side and put their hands up
But just goes to show peoples assumptions of minis

I drove down to Birmingham on the motorway in my Mini on Monday and I was amazed/baffled about the amount of times cars would come flying up behind me and then swerve out at the last minute. I was driving mostly on the inside or middle lanes, so not holding anyone one up but it seemed to happen time after time (with White Van Man amongst the worst offenders).
Maybe you just notice it more when your in a tiny tin can on wheels or prehaps everyone just wants a closer look before carrying on their way, its baffliing....

The one I don't like is when they think they can push past when its your right of way. My mini becomes the size of a land rover.
