Hmm interesting reading especially as I am getting a similar problem, working on a car thats been off the road for about a year, got round to firing the engine and no oil pressure, i.e the oil light refused to go out. Checked oil levels, checked pressure relief valve, checked switch, primed oil pump, connected a gauge and nothing this is from a car thats just not been started for a while.

Prime again while turning the engine backwards - and then spin it up on the starter until you get pressure. Don't start it until you are sure of having pressure.

Damn right. Never fire an engine unless you KNOW it has an oil pressure of at least 30 lb/sq.in on the starter motor. Remove the plugs whilst spinning for initial pressure.

ok fitted the new Tim oil pressure gauge today, primed the oil pump, checked the bolts where the pick up is for the oil the one directly under Neath i turned 3/4 so hopefully that was the problem.
i then turned it over with the plugs out, the oil pressure light went out, but no reading on the new oil pressure gauge.
thats a bit strange lol,

the lights gone out but no reading on the dial.

i really hope it was just that bolt just no sealing up enough.

anything i could have done wrong with the install.

fitted t piece run the copper pipe through the bulk head. theres no kinks in the copper pipe.

do i need to bleed it or something as the new pipe would be full of air.

found the problem with the pressure gauge.

when they soldered the end on they soldered it shut, can not blow through the pipe.

ok got the car ruining
today on idil the pressure on the guage is showing about 25psi on about 1000rpm ( can not be sure of the reading due to the copper pipe being slightly blocked, but the oil pressure light is going out as well so, should be safe enough to start.)

i left the car ruin for a while today now, leaving it for a few hours ro see if i stillhave oil pressure.

see if i have fixed the problem

Well the good news is my problem is fixed as well, the fix was easy but not something I would of thought of, a friend suggested dropping the oil and then refilling the engine and it worked, good oil pressure etc after cranking with plugs out etc.

How come your oil pressure gauge has a copper pipe? that sounds strange, never personally seen one like that.

The original Mini oil pressue gauges had copper pipes. There was one which went into the block fitting and another into the back of the gauge. They were joined by a rubber tube.

ok left the car over night,

i then disconnected the coil turned the car over with a fully charged battery for around 20 seconds and nothing
no oil pressure showing at all.

noticed today that there is a crease in the oil filter must have caught it when putting the engine in. maybe this could be the problem.

can't really think of anything else. Other than changing the oil.

... or changing the oil pump, at which time you can check the various seals. I don't think you can blame the oil.

You really do need to take the engine out and find out what the problem is, or you risk doing a lot of damage if you fire it up with no pressure.
