There is no logic to dropping the oil and refilling........

it just don't make sense
i had this problem when i first but the engine a while ago. soi took the engine out changed the oil pump. (oil pump new all oil seals etc.)

and i'm still not having oil pressure.

really don't want to do it again lol. just trying to rule everything else out before i take it back out, to find it was something stupid. like a dented oil filter,

(anyone think this could be the problem.) really don't think its the oil pump due to having a good one and a brand new one in and having the same problem.
only other thing is the o-ring on the pick up. it is brand new but could have moved when installing.

can not see it being the pressure relief valve as u need pressure for it to work. (i believe) so the problem is before this. ( correct me if this could be the case.)

can not be anything else can it??

You said you did get pressure at one point? And now you say you had this problem once before? Is the pickup standard - or a competition antisurge type? You will have to take the thing out and check everything...... Is the correct oil pump fitted - same drive as the cam tail? I have heard of oil pump drive shaft spinning in the rotor.......but very unusual..

It could be the relief valve plunger stuck slightly off its seating. This prevents the pressue from building at low revs as the oil simply returns to the sump.
It is certainly not the filter.
Changing the oil will make no difference.
Lack of oil pressure will be one of the things already listed by the respondents above:

Oil pick up pipe not fitted correctly
'O' ring not fitted
Oil pump defective or pump shaft not properly connected to cam
No oil pump gasket
DGS under the relief valve
Worn main- and/or big-end bearings
Insufficient oil in sump

when i changed the engine i kept the originial box and i know the standard pick up pipe is fine.
oil pump it the slop drive which matches the cam shaft. ( i know this works, when i prime the oil pump it works fine.
there def a new oil pump gasket when i fitted new oil pump.
plently of oil.
all bearing shell brand new.

o-ring could have moved.
unsure what DGS is under the relief valve.

This time - fill it and run it up on the starter motor to check for oil pressure BEFORE you refit it!

'DGS' is 'Dirt, Grit and S**t'. I learned that when I was an apprentice, as in "Don't get any DGS in that mechanism, laddie!".

ok finial had chance to day to take the engine out and strip it down.

it all seems ok the o-ring in place.

they only thing that does not look like is . on the gearbox the gasket it higher than the o-ring. which could cause a bad seal.
i know some one said on this topic that they had a problem where the gasket is to think and that caused as similar problem.
do you think this is the case.

will upload some photos soon to show you.

Gaskets compress quite considerably once the weight of the engine is crushing it, and then the when the bolts torque up it compresses it further. I always use a bit of sealer around the O-ring (not on it) and on the engine and gearbox mating faces all the way round including the half moon seal to ensure there is a nice seal

sorry for the bad quality my iphone not very good for photos.

i can see any other problems.

unless i didn't torq them up enough to make a good seal

i will use an instant gasket to help seal it up this time.
