Is it just me or did the forum seem busier and more accessible with the old skin / system ?

Yeah I know it's all bells and whistles now but it all feels a bit too clean and "digital".
I liked the old oily rag version and can't help but feel we've lost something with the new look and feel.
Is this just nostalgia or was the "old" forum a bit quicker and dirtier ?

There used to be a button to click for instant email if someone posted a response to a post (like this one) - that's gone.
How do I know if someone posts a response anymore ?
There used to be a thing at the bottom that told you how many folks were online - that's gone.
Is this actually progress or just 'keeping up with the software Jones's" ?

Did anyone VOTE for this change ?

Can we Vote to go back to the old style forum we knew and loved ?

Will this post just be shifted into the (never read) "Forum feedback and questions" section ?

Old forum felt much better, seemed a lot busier and wasn't broken - why was it "fixed" ?

I'll be honest - I use and visit the forum a LOT less since the "upgrade".
Because it looks awful, feels over- desiged and "functional" rather than user friendly and doesn't have the kind
of instant "blast and farce" of the old one.

Am I alone ?

Old TMF was tonnes better... mostly due to the people, although the software update and new layout/skins is too Facebookey for a forum. I appreciate the efforts that go into turning it into what it is, but I certainly don't prefer it to the old TMF.

I don't mind the new forum but the type of people on here seem to have changed. When I first joined (which wasn't that long ago) it didn't matter how stupid the question was, someone would always help out.
Now, I am the first to admit that I don't have a very good knowledge of the mini but am learning fast and know that I'll get there in the end but recently I sit here and watch people give short rude answers to new TMF members and never see that member post again.

People on here feel the need to try to be clever regardless of it's relevance. For instance every time someone says they want to turbo or even just increase the performance of their 998 engine, the first 5 or 6 responses are 'why bother with the 998 when you will get better power out of a 1275 for less money'. That's not what the OP asked, why can't people just accept that not everyone is the same? You can get more reliable power by dropping a vtec lump in but that's NOT THE POINT.

I used to come on here and ask for advice, now I phone around friends and use google and anything else that I can to find the answer through fear of being made to look stupid.

This isn't a friendly place to be any more and before everyone starts with 'just leave then' there are a lot of people I get on wth on here and I enjoy doing my best to help other people out. My responses might not be as in depth as some but at least I don't just reply with 'USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION'

Try to remember that not everyone is as perfect as some of you and new members might not think to use the search function straight away.

Pretty much everyone I speak to says they steer clear of TMF when possible because there are always arguements and people trying to patronise you. It's a shame because TMF also has some of the nicest and most helpful people I've ever met. Look at cooperman, there isn't a question that he hasn't already answered 10 times but he still takes the time to write a response!

The mods here do a great job and all they get is abuse and questioning. I love TMF but the reputation it carries is terrible.

I miss the old, helpful, fun, friendly TMF

you also gotta remember for new features to happen, we have to progress with software to enable us to do them.

also new software offers much improvements to unseen things like server load, thus helping the server and keeping tmf online 24/7

i can see online users, it shows a summary of last 15mins and you can click for a full list of current online users.

i cant see any features lost from the old version, just new features. personally im very happy using the new forum.

I have to admit I did struggle with it a bit at first. The advantages soon outweigh the disadvantages though.

The mobile version is excellent, being able to have PM conversations is good.

The search is better, being able to track topics you were involved in easier.

Also from a mod point of view its much better to use.

When the forum was changed, I was taken aback. It just looked cack IMHO.

I didn't return for a few months because of it. Then I came back because I had a question, and I've decided to give it a go. I think I'm warming to it.

Personally I would've preferred a vBulletin or phpBB board (both have a large amount of mods) but that's only because I'm used to them. vBulletin is a bit expensive, mind.

I totaly dissagre with this bud are you looking in the wrong places i joined TMF in 2010 i think but never used it becase i lost interest in the project but after renewed interest i am back, all the stupid post i have put up have been excepted and i have never had any sacastic or unhelpfull reply and to be honest i have never seen one and also never given one we can all have a laugh,
and if planing a project isn't it good to hear the other side of it, possibly saving people money and time ;D and as the cost of 1275 lumps are rising a lot of members now are working on the smaller engine upgrades, try reading some of the posts instead of griping might do you good, and you may use the forum more :D

I have to say, the forum is changing its definitely not the same as it was. I have to agree the old skin was a million times better, I appreciate the work that goes on behind the scenes so I'm not slagging off the team, but there must be a way to mimic the old skin to make it more accessible.

I have also noticed a shift in demographic a lot of the old faces have given up or are posting a lot less than before, I don't know if this is entirely down to the new skin, but I imagine it has something to do with it!

The thing I miss about the old forum is that when you hover over a topic now, you don't get a 'preview' of the first few lines of the first post so that you can decide whether to click on it or not.

You have to click on it, load the page, only to find its something your not interested in. Particularly when someones titled the thread "Look at this!" or "My latest purchase". In most cases I end up either not bothering and just picking a few threads and then finish.

Forum does look better IMO though so thanks to the TMF Crew for that.
