You have to click on it, load the page, only to find its something your not interested in. Particularly when someones titled the thread "Look at this!" or "My latest purchase". In most cases I end up either not bothering and just picking a few threads and then finish.

If you click the grey circle with the white arrow next to the post title it will show you the first couple of posts without having to go to the actual page.

I think the new forum skin is miles better. I design and build sites every day and know its hard to find a balance between aesthetics, functionality and usability. I think the new skin does that perfectly.

Also the mobile version is spot on. I do a lot of browsing on my phone and the old skin was almost unusable.

The thing I miss about the old forum is that when you hover over a topic now, you don't get a 'preview' of the first few lines of the first post so that you can decide whether to click on it or not.

You have to click on it, load the page, only to find its something your not interested in. Particularly when someones titled the thread "Look at this!" or "My latest purchase". In most cases I end up either not bothering and just picking a few threads and then finish.

Forum does look better IMO though so thanks to the TMF Crew for that.

H

Hover a topic, to the right of the title an arrow appears, click it. It's not that much different.

To those saying it looks "cack" I agree with you and it's entirely my fault. I've not had chance to make a custom skin for the software yet so we are still sitting on the standard look. This will change!

To the "It's too Facebooky" crowd. It's blue, so is my daily drive but when I look on the back it doesn't say Vauxhall Facebook :shades:.

According to the logs, August (the board software was upgraded at the start of the month) ended a trend of less and less posts month by month. We're now enjoying a steady 23-24k posts a month.

As a web developer I was very glad to see the forum get an upgrade. The old skin looked just that - old. The new skin packs a ton more features and although it feels more facebooky, such as sidebar status updates (which I requested :P) it's only a good thing. I've posted a few things in the sidebar and had fantastic replies (such as quick valuations etc) which saved me creating yet another thread that'd get 1 reply and then clutter the forum.

I haven't visited the Forum for some months so it's all new to me and I'm a bit lost. Can anyone explain to me how to edit something I posted a year ago. I can't find an 'Edit' button.

I think we are getting a similar to reaction of that from when Windows XP became Windows Vista.

When Vista first came out, most people hated it. They preferred the older look, found XP easier to use and said it was far less buggy. Yes, it was far less buggy, but what can you expect from a totally new revamp? Then, people started to work out how to use it properly, and got used to it. They realised that Vista had just the same functions as XP did, with more. They also found it was a lot quicker to use than XP, and a lot easier over time.

Now, people wonder how on earth they managed with XP. I know that when I first tried Vista, I hated it. Now I'm on Windows 7, XP seems like an alien world that's slow, ugly, and just not very good.

I think we're in a similar situation with the forum. Mind you, I'm not really one to talk since I wasn't here in the time of the older style.

As for attitudes, I'm not really able to contribute. :)

That's because it's a bodge. Windows 7 is what Vista was supposed to be.

Hi,

I've only used the new forum and I think it is very good.

I've installed many phpBB sites and I think IP board is much slicker and user friendly....but.... I never used the old one and don't know what it was or what it was like, however from a 'new persons' view I think TMF works well.

My negative comments on the system are:

1) bad search function
2) inability to edit posts after a set time, as already mentioned. I sometimes write replies on a phone and after I've posted the number of mistakes I've made are numerous. If I haven't noticed them in time my post is left in an unreadable state.

And, as others have said the mobile view is very good.....

On the negative thead comments a la 'just use the search' etc I've seen a few but it doesn't seem to be a problem. I'm only really active (and very new) in the Problems sub forum though and a better search will prevent posting the same question over and over.

As an aside XP is slower than Windows 7 due to extra code levels on top of drivers. Gamers tend to use XP for that reason.

Theres was a feature on the old forum to specify which car you had and which modifications you had done. Also you could put some pictures of your car on there. If anyone can remember it? Thats Long gone now.

That was called the garage and so few people used it or even knew what it was that it was decided that it wasn't really of any use.

There was a vote at the time to see how many people used it:
