Hi all

I'm busy designing a fully digital dash that uses a 10.1" galaxy tab for both gauges and I.C.E. Just thought id post some pics of the design stage to see what you guys think.
I would like to keep the air vents as it gets very hot here in South Africa so fresh air is a must, but i would also like dash mounted speakers and at least one small cubby hole. Space is a bit of an issue so any suggestions or ideas are more than welcome

you could try a few designs with the pad flipping down from under the dashboard

As your building from scratch, move the speakers to the outside and the air vents in.

Much better place for the speakers. And air vents can be anywhere really.

How are you planning on integrating to gauges and ice into the tablet? If you know android progamming the app wouldn't be too difficult to design but it would be tricky to get a reading for the speedo connected to the tablet!

Thanks for the great response :)

The sun is an issue but i am not too worried about that as tyhere is nothing i can do about it.
I can write android apps and i will use an arduino micro-controller connected to the tablet to read speed rpm etc straight from the car.
Thanks for the idea ruckus i will definitely give that a thought.
The Tablet will slide into a custom mount so i can remove it when not in the car so i can use it and so that its not stolen :P.

please keep the ideas coming :)

Tell me more... Do you have a link to these controllers, could one talk to more than one tablet at a time and can they talk to a pc or mac?
If you're a dev can you code apps if other platforms??

I have ideas.... ;)

http://www.amarino-toolkit.net/ this is the project thats connects the two and this is the micro controller http://arduino.cc/ and yes arduino's can be connected to mac pc linux android and pretty much anything with usb or bluetooth.
The controllers are quite cheap and can talk to each other so multi tablet connection probably wont be a problem.
I wouldnt call myself a developer as im only just learning the coding or the android apps however i have worked allot with the micro-controller.
please share your ideas as i want as many as possible so when i do write the app it is all inclusive..

Instead of the speedo cable i will use a hall effect sensor some where on the output side of the gear box. Not quite sure yet though. For RPM i will use a clip on RPM sensor over one of the spark cords. I'm still busy figuring out the logistics but hopefully i can make it simple and reliable

Very good idea, you obviously know what you're talking about! If you ever get one fully working thats reliable, you could make some serious money from it by creating a similar app for ipads and a universal connection for other cars. Keep us updated!!

was thinking that when i first saw this, thers so many things you could incorporate into it as well, like megajolt integration, that would be cool!
