Well time for some photos. Got some little annoying bits done.

Horn in

ECU mounted, I really don't like it in the engine bay, I think in the near future it will be living in the dash.

Radiator top mount in.

Got the indicator wiring, coolant temp sender and brake light switch all wired in.

Then I thought I'd have a little look at the wobble on the rear hub, There is slight play in the radius arm but only a tiny tiny amount, but I'm still pretty annoyed about it, as it's a recon'd component with new bearings and pins from minispares. But the most play is in the rear bearings, again brand new bearing, brand new radius arm, new thrust washer, all tightened up, and there is still LOADS of play in the bearing. It seems to me that either the internal diameter of the bearing is too big for the radius arm shaft OR the shaft is too narrow, either way I don't know what to do about it, or If I'm doing anything wrong,as the other side is perfect and has used the same stuff... hmmm

Anyway heres a couple of videos to show you what I'm on about.

With the wheel on it rocks ALOT, if you put your finger on the drumbrake against the backplate you can feel it moving away from it.

without the wheel.

If anyone has some suggestions I'm all ears! help please! haha.

Thanks for looking!
Jack

The hub problem was the bearings! I re-fitted the old ones and there is no movement whatsoever, so I will be emailing minispares and asking them if they have had problems before, although I have used the same kit on the other side and it's fine, maybe it was just a faulty one? Who knows, but I'll need to replace it!

It's nearly ready for an MOT hopefully a week or so.

Right, I've actually been doing some work on this again. I got a bit too stuck into my Golf, bought some new wheels etc etc, been busy at work too.

Time for some photos! Can't really remember where I left off last time so I'll chuck some photos up!

Got the doors on, front grille, bonnet and bumper, also boot lid and petrol tank and battery are all secured in now.

painted the rear valence and sprayed the whole underside boot floor and inside of valence of box sections with red oxide primer and stone chip.

Started to re-furb my wheels aswell, they were looking tired and dirty and a bit of yellow surface rust was poking through, pretty mush all of them were like the first couple of pictures. So sanded the rusty areas back, keyed up the rest of them gave them a couple of coats of zinc primer and then just some white gloss spray.
Need to spray my arches body colour as well, other than that not much left to do, just need to sort the hole in the rear arch. Got a panel made up so I'll just weld it in.

Hopefully going to take it for a little drive soon, on the private road out the back of my house, see if everything is ok. Although I think I have something draining the battery, I'll have a look into that.

No pictures tonight, SD card slot in the laptop is bust...

Anyways, I've got 2 wheels painted now, one is semi primed, had a bit of a problem as the zinc primer orange peeled on me, so had to sand this all back and spray it again. Also I've got all 4 arches primed and one coat of body colour on them. Hopefully have all the spraying done by the weekend and I can start doing some trail fits of the wheels and arches.

Going to finish of the welding tomorrow night too. Want to get this done soon, I miss driving a mini.

Nice progress, not read this in a while. My car has got worse since my last post, currently taking my engine out to replace the gearbox! Wish I could afford a new front end while it's out, desperately needs one. Anyway, looking forward to some more pictures, and good luck with the upcoming MOT! I hate MOTs, never passed one first time...

Cheers man, yeah I'll get some pictures up soon.

Just had a check through your project, My front end was like that too, they really didn't rust proof the rover cars very well... Making some good progress though man!

Yeah MOT's are a nervous time, I hope mine passes, it better!! haha.

Well.....

It failed, nothing major apart from ball joints and a new cat, and one of my servo mounts has snapped. The rest are little trivial things.

But unfortunately, my golfs insurance and tax is up for re-newel AND it needs new front brakes, so the mini will be taking a back seat for a while, regrettably, but I'll be doing the little things but I don't expect it'll be mot'd anytime soon.

Thanks for looking, and keep looking because I will be working on it!

Sorry to hear that mate, at least it isn't anything too expensive or tricky to sort. Why does it need a new cat? Is it blowing or is it just emissions? Mine failed on emissions after being off the road for a while, just needed a good blast up and down the motorway a couple of times to clear it out.

Yeah It was emissions, but the cat makes a pretty bad rattle and it seems dead. I gave it a good trashing on the way to the mot just to make sure but it still failed.

Yeah it's just annoying little bits really, most annoying bit will be the brake servo mounting studs onto the bulkhead, going to be a right pain!!!
