The piston problem might just mean that whoever had them before has mixed up the pistons and vacuum chambers, each set is a matched pair and they should stay together. See if these fit better swapped around, and drop test them to see if they are roughly equal.

The installation is easier I find with a length of solid pipe connecting them together. Use short braided sections at each end but keep a rigid section in the middle. You can form it to clear whatever you need properly rather than having to keep cable tying a flexible line back all over the place.

Servo one!

Good shout actually, one is fine the other is a bit rough, will try this.

I was thinking of buying the solid pipe for the fuel line, will fit neater.

Right, sorted that problem haha! well they were full of grit and metal, didn't notice it all, slides lovely now.

Instead of thinners, would brake cleaner be better to clean them with?

yeah brake cleaner (a.k.a parts cleaner) will dissolve the "crud" :proud:

Absolutely, brake cleaner leaves no residue but thinners will.

they do make the car a bit quicker but the main difference is the increase in torque, the bottom end pulling power is really impressive, and our mini is loads better on fuel than the old HS4 that was on it before, we got to bingley hall and back (nearly 90 miles) on £8 of fuel.

:o

wow, I used about 20 quids worth doing 120 miles and mine has been on the rollers haha.

Mine does about the same 'thebullet'.

'oltonlad' 90miles on £8 works out at just under 9pence per mile. Either you get petrol incredibly cheaply or you car is twice as efficient (19p per mile) as mine...

Your talking over 65mpg.

You sure you got that far under a Tenner?.

Some of you may wonder why I decided to strip the carbs even though they had only just recently been restored... well after spraying ONE carb in bits into this tin you will see why. The bodies aren't even the worst, it is the manfiold that I just can't get clear, more and more bits of metal and sand dispite me soaking in petrol and scrubbing...

Imagine this going into my engine, and I feel sorry for the poor guy who ran them on his enging for a bit before!
