Minor Update:

Thinking about sound insulation!

Who's got sound insulation in their mini? does it make a big difference? this is what i propose:

Layer of the factory bitumin stuff (Just gonna leave it in)
Layer of 2mm silent coat - EVERYWHERE! :P
Layer of underlay
Carpets

Will this make a big difference? and how much silent coat will i need? anyone done a insulation install that wants to share their knowledge ;)

As for the welding, 2/4 major holes = complete! just 2 more to do, will get them done on the weekend, then got lots of little ones here and there which will be sorted too, like the bootfloor is full of little holes, and a few other minor ones here and there.

As for respray - got man coming over next thurs for the final look over and final price before its hopefully sprayed before the end of march

Chosen my colour finally! Gone for ford imperial blue, see below:

Welding!

Got to work finally, only managed to snap a few photos but better than none! Here's me uncle welding the front floor/sill plate on!

Posted Image

Here's one he did last night! Needs a bit of a tidyup etc, but looks solid to me!

Slowly getting there!...

Small Update! (not sure anyone's following but hey) :teehee:

Rang up the spray shop today and they've got a trailer and they're coming to collect it on Wednesday next week!

He says he's pretty full at the moment so will take him about 2 weeks to get all finished up, no rush for me though, if i was honest it's nice to not have it in the garage, just so i can knuckle down and get some school work done :shades: but will be quality when it arrives back!

Still a little more things to source and find but i'm sure it'll be okay, hopefully!

anyway best be off to bed now!

NEXT UPDATE WEDNESDAY! :highfive:

Hi mate. Looks like a good project! Just out of curiosity, how much have they quoted you for a respray and where from etc? I have a 1989 Mini 30 which is undergoing a major rebuild.. I am nowhere near the spraying stage but I am trying to get a good idea of costs etc.
Keep up the good work
Cheers
Joe

Okay, Heres one hell of an update!

Not been on here for a while so not done any updates, so here is the last 3 weeks or so's work!

Respray!

Went to go visit him looks excellent, ford imperial blue, absolutly love it!

Got it home

Posted Image

First thing I did was to get the doors on and begin to make it water tight, as some of you may know, the garage i'm using, the owner recently passed away, meaning its on the market, and so i will have to move out soon :( I'm sure i'll find a new home soon though!

After that I chucked the grille on, changes the look completely, to anyone looking to get their car resprayed, go for ford imperial blue, so nice in the light and chrome looks insane against it

Posted Image

Got me dad over and decided the headlining was a good place to start! I have to say though, it is one hell of a :xxx: of a job!

First off we chucked a little sound insulation on the roof, bought a silent coat bulk pack as per recommendations, and it is excellent, really is, cannot fault it! Roof is no longer a drum! :P

Posted Image

And now onto fitting the headlining

All in all don't think we did too bad a job!

Optimise automotive products; you gotta love em!

Posted Image

Posted Image

Now turned my attention to it's arse :proud:

Got the boot lid on etc, new bumper, needs a plate and a few tweaks on mounting the number plate light but still loving it

Posted Image

Sorry about the quality of that one!

Started to get some insulation in the other day but can't find the photo i took, i'll post it up tomorrow i think!

So if there is anyone at all interested in this thread, would love to hear your comments!

Hi mate. That paintwork looks great! You're right, the chrome just looks astonishing against it. I already have a car that colour (fiesta st) and I know what you mean, it looks great when its polished. I have a cherry red mini 30 which I am currently restoring. I wanted to paint I a different colour but I was persuaded otherwise as is a limited edition now after seeing your car I want it blue! Haha.
Keep up the good work.

Yep! Knew someone would spot it :P

Such a nice car, unfortunatly not mine, tis me uncles. He's been helping me the whole process, couldn't of really done it without him really, hes a top guy. I really owe him one, one day I'll repay the favour :P

Yea he restores cars as a hobby, but spends most of his time doing it, heres his two long term cars, both nut and bolt rebuild and restore. (The P6 is his daily driver!)

Posted Image

He usually has a project on the go too, in the last couple 6 months or so, he's had a jag, Couple Morris minors, Jensen, all restored and sold on. And he's currently doing a old MG TF I think?

Classic car but really ;) he has helped so much :)

If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost to be sprayed? And where did you have it done? I think I am about 2-3 months off paint now.. Can't wait! Haha. Keep up the good work!

Was a local accident repair/bodywork/sprayshop bloke, was really cheap, £700 in the end and a good standard too :)

If I were you I would ask around, friends of friends etc is always a good shot as they won't rip you off and will do a good job :)

Cool. Thanks. I've been quoted £800 upwards from nottingham mini bits. I thought it was quite good. They have just done a mini 30 in red and it looks great. I will have a look around where I live. It will be going for the respray minus subframes etc as I don't want any overspray.
Cheers.
Joe
