Also, are there any reknown 'tiny' amplifiers? I would want to have the amplifier in the front of my car, somewhere or other.

Yes but you will pay for this sort of thing.

I certainly would have to pay, blimey. I think the money seems to be spiralling out of control so I will give the subwoofer a miss. Whilst it would be nice to have, I can't sacrifice the space in the boot and lack the handycraft to build an enclosure for under the rear seats. Plus these all bumps up the cost so I would have to skimp out on the speakers.
If my budget was ~£200 for an amp and some slim line speakers, would the Vibe Litebox 2 and the Vibe Liteair 6 be a good match? Size wise it would be perfect, budget it works out, and reviews on the Liteair 6 seem good. Plus getting the 6" would, technically, mean a little better lower end and I would be able to mount the tweeters that come with it either in or on the dashboard. That, from my reading, should be better than a Co-Axial speaker? And I really don't listen to any music with heavy bass so don't think I would mind, although from reading on the talk audio forum it doesn't really matter about the music one listens to. The only way I would get a subwoofer is if some custom board popped up for sale that someone on this forum was selling that would plonk under the seats and be all I need, so I think a2 channel would suit me as this is very unlikely. Although if there is a similar sized and priced 4 channel amp then it would of course be foolish to go with the Litebox 2. The Denon looks MASSIVE but if there was a list of amplifiers to look out for on ebay/TA lying around on any site that would be swell (although I doubt there will be).

Thanks for all the help, it's been quite the steep learning curve!

Although Vibe are meant to be not thought well of on the talk audio forums. Bugger it. (also, sorry for not editing above, it seems to not let me all the time). The other slim ones I have found then are the In Phase SXT6.1,the more expensive and better Focal 165 V slim.

Amplifier I think a Genesis Profile 2 would be good. Couple on eBay at the mo and a great brand. In fact, if I can find the amplifier cheap I could stump up for the Focals...but they are still bloody expensive regardless!

Sorry for being a constant pain!

Not really heard that great stuff about in-phase, I listened to some Focals and Hertz (not alot different in sq as well) speakers and they where quite good quality.

Yep, they seem to be owned by car audio centre who appear to be a very shady company so I will avoid them and the In Phase. Thanks for your comment on the Hertz compared to the focals, that means I could save my pennies and jump on Hertz but the slimmest speakers I can find (bar the ancient space line) are the esk 165s which seem to be 62mm, I would like to get thinner than that if possible, hence why the Vibe's look nice (if it wasn't for their sound quality...(apparently)...

I know this might be a silly thing to say, seen as this is a "speakers in a door card" thread, but it would be alot easier to create some pods under the dash, you would be able to get better quality speakers in them, as your not limited to depth, and it would be easier to get in and out of the mini. ( my feet always scrape the door car when getting out, a door pod would be even worse :D ).

Just a thought really... :-)

Iv got a pair of speaker pods if you are interested mate? They are shaped so go well on the front arch areas.

And there's another ingredient thrown into the pot. I always sort of rejected speaker pods as I thought they would get in the way (I'm quite lanky) more so than them mounted in the door cards, but mainly as I am completely incompetent at making anything in the slightest (other than a cup of tea. I can make a mean cup of tea). Could you post up a picture of your speaker pods abe? If they don't get in the way and not too pricey then I'm all for them.

EDIT: Would they hamper me on long drives more so than having them in the door cards? As that would be a problem. I don't really mind about getting in and out, it's when I'm in there that counts for me..

Cheers mate, to confirm they are for 6.5" speakers and easy enough to attach for a simpleton like me? I will have a think about what would be easier, door mounted or front arch mounted (and a sit in my car to try and visualise).

Oh sorry they are for 5.25" speakers!

Apologies, I must have misunderstood. Have you already bought the speakers?

I should probably change the title! I am opting for the 6.5" as I shall not be having a subwoofer, so it will give me better low level response. Not bought the speakers yet, still hunting for (ideally) thin ones for the door! At the moment it is likely to be the Hertz ESK 165s unless better//similar sounding but thinner speakers emerge.
