new engines are far superior to the ole 1930s pushrod engine.
pretty sure new bhps are exactly the same as old ones though ;)

New engines also produce more torque, torque is what gives you acceleration.
again, vs. cars with similar torque/weight ratios... still slower

errr not really, a 1000cc mini engine only really roduces 70 bhp, i see modern engines putting our 80 - 90 bhp easily
More like 35hp, if we're comparing stock vs stock. Don't forget 4 gears and the aerodynamics of a hose brick.

I'd agree with this gotta be the gearing.

he is saying cars with similar bhp per tonne not comparing bhp with cc.
This ^^^
Are you trying to say a mini with 70bhp produces less power than a modern car with 70bhp?

Also - please point me in the direction of some modern 1.0s with 90 bhp! Current Ford Ka 1.3 is ~75hp, and iirc the previous one was about 60hp

Aero barely applies in a 0-60.
I understand transmission losses, but even vs. a car with the same power/torque/weight at the wheels it's still slower!
