errr not really, a 1000cc mini engine only really roduces 70 bhp, i see modern engines putting our 80 - 90 bhp easily

More like 35hp, if we're comparing stock vs stock. Don't forget 4 gears and the aerodynamics of a hose brick.

really??? bahaha thats poor

Actually it's 38, but count in the fact that the engine is 20 years old and you've probably got 30 if you're lucky,

Why bother contributing to a topic you know nothing about?

As do wheel sizes (overall rolling radius) also have an affect.

I meant to put this in my original post but forgot! minis also have smaller wheels than (most of) the other cars I'm talking about, so should be to the minis advantage?

standard 1275 mk 1 mk 11 cooper s was 0-60 in 10.7 sec giving

around 63 bhp at the WHEELS which would be arounf 75 -77 at flywheel

take in consideration of the weight and its quite quick even by now standards

my mg metro engine slightly modded would be giving this or touch more

Nearly 11 seconds 0-60 isnt quick at all to be honest. Our works van can do that!. The way modern engines deliver their power has a lot to do with it. Both engines might peak at exactly the same BHP, but the RPM they do will be different. Torque is relative to BHP.
Example - 1275 A series produces 30bhp @ 2000rpm increasing to 70bhp @ 5000rpm. Now pick a 1.3L engine from the manufacturer of your choice. This might produce exactly the same BHP but it already has 45bhp under its belt by 2500rpm. But the 'book' figure will be the 'same'.

The A series will never be considered a performance engine anymore, as the technology is far too outdated.

it makes me laugh that people are even attempting to make a comparison between a 50+ year old engine design and a modern design......thats like saying "well my i phone is much better than your 25 year old nokia!.....well of course it will be.......obviously!!

lol ^ good example. It's why I find the whole mini 'scene' a bit silly now. Fair enough, we all have to start somewhere and ask questions. But it'd be nice if they tried to think about the answer themselves first.

The bottom line is..if you want high performance, don't get a bog standard mini. They were not designed for sub 10s 0-60mph acceleration, or 100 mph top speeds.
If you want a mini and performance you will need to spend money. Engine technology is improving all the time, the last minis built are now 12 years old so even they will struggle to keep up with a modern family saloon.
Even the so called 'sports cars' from the 60s and 70s can be embarrased by the performance of some of the modern people carriers.

They proved that on top gear with an Aston DB5 and a Jag E Type against a Honda Accord. Accord pissed it!.

11 to 60mph isn't actually that slow when you look at other cars doing similar times. If I remember correctly a BMW 525D does about 8.9

A 0-60 on a clapped out transit isn't that bad when you compare it to a 44ton HGV. Still slow though.

Vans are surprisingly quick because they generally have big diesels woth lots of torque, low weight and short gear ratios
