I usually do the same as joshspragg. Go to the cheapest in my area which is ASDA. But from what people are saying, I might go to somewhere like BP or Shell.

I generally use Tescos fuels, but I must have put fuel from every supplier in the UK in over the years. I can honestly say that I haven't actually noticed the slightest difference what so ever, between any of them!! O_O

For those too young to remember though, we used to have star graded fuels. Four Star (for new & performance cars), Three Star (for older cars) and then there was Two star (for lawn mowers, chainsaws & old bangers etc). The two & three star fuels eventually disappeared to make room for unleaded fuel at the pumps in the mid eighties, leaving just Unleaded & Leaded/Four Star in their place. My Dad owned an old mk3 mini at the time and was utterly horrified at the prospect of having to pay out the extra cash per gallon when they phased out two/three star, I can still here him complaining about it now.... "Four star in a Mini!!.... What a complete and utter waste of my hard earned money!!"

lol I can remember when the pumps sold 5 star petrol. Also when shell had that formula petrol which killed the valves in my Dad's Chevette lol

So I had under quarter of a tank, I needed somewhere to be so I filled it up with V power, can't say the pinking has stopped but sometimes isn't as bad. I guess it will take time? I have some redex too to pop in shortly.

Out of interest, does anyone know if any of the supermarket fuel is made by one of the big boys? Surely it cant all be rubbish?

I am sure the more I drive the less this pinking is.

I only put redex in tonight and have been for a 15 minute drive, should be better with full v power and not a mix of supermarket.

I guess it would take its time to stop pinking.

Also, do you have to give it some welly with redex in?

Maybe a stupid question but what is pinking??

I used to use super unleaded from Sainsburys with the leaded head
Now im gonna be using standard unleaded from Tesco or Sainsburys as I put an unleaded head on

I refuse to pay the bp /shell etc price :P cheapest for me :)

It is detonation, when the timing in the engine is wrong and bangs to early or late I think and you can hear it, It is like two marbles cracking togethor or a spark from a gas cooker.

if you put your fingers in your ears you can still normally hear it.

Not when driving though haha.

Yeah, and well it can make temps high and in some nasty cases can melt pistons as temps get so high.
