10 inch 4,5 width best handling any mini can get.The 90s minis only had the wide wheels for looks, handling on them is rubbish.

Absolutely right there, although where Rover got the idea that those silly wide 13" wheels look better is anyone's guess. Still, with the decision makers at Rover it might be said that 'the lift didn't go to the top floor'.

Apparently that is pretty much what BMW thought after they took over Rover in 1994, only to find that Rover management and marketing were already preparing to kill off the Mini for good..........and this was the most famous small car brand known and loved worldwide!........of course the rest is now history with BMW funding investment in the Mini Mpi to meet new European regulations for 4 more years and instructing Rover to start designing the new replacement MINI (R50) for 2001.

Agreed.
In the EU 'the bigger the better' is common sense (i'd say nonsense) regarding wheels, i've been to germany and most european countries and theres NO market for 10" and 12" wheels and people laugh at those small wheels..
At the time the mini was not appealing due to small wheels, the 'awkward' bootlid (people were expecting such a small car to be a proper hatchback) and the fact the power ATFW was low compared to other 1300 engines.

I so want to go back to 10's but my mini just looks awesome on 13s. Aghhh style over substance, let battle commence. Every time i drive past a shop window i think he looks lovely.

though my old mini was much more fun in the handling department on 10's.

Paint was shocking though looks good in pics.

Wow the proper minilights look stunning, where did you source these from?

You can order them direct from Tech Del manufacturers of genuine Minilites in the UK, but you have to mention you want the Minilite Mk 11 6x10 alloys with deeper dish ET-15 offset and wait until next batch are made for export to Japan if not in stock. Most of the re-sellers like Minispares only sell the standard UK spec and don't stock the export type which are very expensive in Japan.

Thanks for that, it is now in my 'to buy' list, I just need to finish the mini first!

Regarding the where to buy the wheels, Yes direct from minilite is the best option. But they only cast this particular wheel when they receive enough orders. I.E when turtle trading in Japan order. Otherwise you can buy direct from turtle trading at 200 quid a wheel (ouch).

RE. rover and larger wheels, i have always thought they were replicating the trend of fitting as large wheels and as low profile tyres as possible on cars, which characterized the 90's.

Incidentally I still like the look of minis on 13" wheels. Forgoing the handling road and holding discussion, on 10's the ride quality is ALOT more comfy.
