Thought I'd better become part of this community to celebrate getting my Mini City E (998cc) the other day. I've wanted one since I was very young; it's a dream come true! :-)

I had a few questions I thought I may as well ask:

1) What speed will it reach comfortably on the motorway
2) How can I tell if it has been tuned? I know nothing about cars, but I've read that there are certain upgrades. One thing I've noticed is that the bottom is extremely low (I have to slow down or avoid speed bumps all together to avoid it actually hitting. Is this typical of this car?)

I've also heard about replacing the wheels...I assume mine are the originals.

Any help/advice would be massively appreciated!

awaits the usually rubbish about 998's top speeds...

put it this was 70 will be both very noisey and scary, see it more as a target.

very nice mini by the way.

70 is fine - I wasn't expecting much more to be honest.

Thanks! The paintwork is practically flawless. I haven't had a rust-check underneath yet...

Well I'm currently trying to find a garage to store him in, but it's a bit of a pain in central Cardiff, so i'll probably be risking residential parking. I'll be using him daily for work, prob about 30 miles a week max, plus a few road trips into the countryside here and there.

Should be fine for occasional motorway driving, right? We're probably talking 3 hour stretches of 65mph or so? As I said, I have absolutely no idea if its been tuned or tinkered with...

Well its well known that every standard 998 can reach at least 100 mph (with a large steep down hill, wind in the correct direction and being towed haha)

The first thing to check to see if it has been modified would be the exhaust/ manifolds, the standard inlet and exhaust manifolds are a one-piece cast thing, where as most after market ones are separate. this is easy to check, just look down the back of the engine :)

Generally this is the first modification that is made (to the engine anyway).

If you could post a good picture of the side then it will be easy to determine if it has been lowered or what-not.

And the car will be fine on the motorway, I often drive up the M5 from exeter to bristol and the car is good as gold (998 too).

Nicccceeee :gimme:

It should handle that fine. As long as it's well maintained and looked after. Congrats on graduating as well!

Nothing particularly upclose unfortunately, although I will definitely take some more pictures when I head home to collect it. Thanks for the comments, and thanks especially to jakejj for the advice! :)

The wooden finish you can (just about) see in the first picture below extends over the entire dashboard, and steering wheel too.

its got a MG metro rocker cover. which is from a 1275.

short journeys are generally harsh on engines, make sure its warmed up before you rag it and give it a nice drive out if you can.

Maybe it has a 1275 engine? I'd be thrilled if it did.

How could I tell? Yeah - I'm an utter novice; this is my first car. :)

a 1275 wont have tapet chest covers on the back.

if the engine has been swapped you'll have to declare it with your insurance,=.
