I got a 50mm radiator for my 1380cc Mini and so far there haven't been any problems with it. I had to pay another £25 customs though

Thermex ones aren't that expensive to be honest I just look at what could happen when the cheap one fails and leaves you stranded

Ye but for the extra £70 I would rather not brake down and risk damage my engine

minis have been bodged by owners since day one,
this isnt the worst you could have.

some people dont have thousands to throw at their cars, its worth a punt in my eyes. i dont have a endless supply of cash.

I know there is, quite rightly, a lot of pride involved with minis, but I have my mini to drive. I am running a 1380 and it is 'metal' and oilm, coloured it isn't painted a nice colour but it works perfectly. Nobody knows the difference when it goes past you in the street, and I don't show it. My mini is to drive and it therefore doesn't matter to me that the radiator has ugly welds. mechanically it is fine. I think it is up to the individual to buy what you want for the purpose you want.

its hardly all over the place, to make it looks like its high but as long as water tight that's all that matters. I learnt to tig weld at college and to be honest it looks good enough for the job, if you want perfect *looking* welds then spend £200 on one, if you want welds that still *work* then spend £55. at the end of the day, no one knows unless they where to pressure test them.

So its all speculation

so if you learnt to tig weld then you'll know how a good weld should look, the welding is sloppy, you can't deny that, if it's that sloppy then it isn't a good weld.

when i was taught to tig best part of thirty years ago if i'd of produced welds like that i'd of been hit with the rad ;-)

as for 'speculation' have a mooch through one of the other threads on these rads and you'll find at least two people have had them fail.

Could the welds not be ground down flush or would they leak? Only a thought

Cheers james
