My insurers didn't seem bothered by the prospect of a stage 1. I'm 23.
I imagine bucket seats and harnesses would be a different matter though. Its likely they cause them to question what the vehicle might be used for.

I'm not 17 but I am looking to getting first time insurance on my mini which has stage 1 and alloy wheels, declaring the mods didn't budge my quote up a penny, best I've found so far is £990... but compared to what others have got that are younger seems a little steep for me.... but then I do live in Essex...

Archer.

i always thought bucket seats are just another safety feature, cant i just say that i want to be more safe and that they arent worth any money as they are pretty crap ones anyway.
hmmm, because i have bucket seats and harnesses and being 17 doesnt look to pretty to the police to be honest. bound to get pulled right?
so i just want to be on the safe side

ahh lucky for you, dont i dont think ill be as lucky :(

I'm 17 and drive a 1275 Unmodded mini, apart from new arches and a few other cosmetic touches. Costs me £600, passed in March

i think a 1275 costs about the same to insure as a 998 for me (18 ) because its still probably no where neer as powerful as a modern car,

also with a stage 1 your still only going to have like 50 bhp tops form an old 998, the best way to get more power will be to rebuld it , and make sure its at the right side of all the tolorences, so basicly build it like a ministox, as quick as you can off blueprint, then maby a stage 1 too :)

you can bore it out to plus 40 without it effecting your insurance as this is an accseptabl repair :)

Wow I'm being conned! I'm 19 with a years named driver experience (no claim!) and I insured my 998 mini in february for £2098 on my own policy! I searched and phoned so many and that was the best price... But to be more helpful I got a quote on a standard 998 and then asked them for a quote with a stage one and it was exactly the same, so you should be okay

A hundred years ago (well...1988) when I was 18 I was paying $1800 a year here in Canada for my crappy '82 Chevette*.

I feel old.

Wow yes you are. Should be paying about a 1k ish. Mines 998 with Stage 1 declared, no other mods. Did try getting insured on my dads SPI 1275 before he sold it.. The costs went through the roof :(

Any modifications from a std production will affect your insurance..........I put alloys many years ago without telling the insurance co and I was not insured..........so always tell them even if you just change the radio headset................. :proud:

under £1000 at 17!
cost me well over £2k for a 1.0 pug 107!

i had a 998 mini when i was 18 - stage 1, bucket seats, alloys, keiths convertible kit, blacked out windows
and it didnt go up a penny! (partly because i didnt tell them lol!)

I got pulled a couple of times but the only thing they really
asked about was why it was red when it was registered as purple!
i did wind down the windows while driving though :)

Adrian Flux are the best for declaring mods but just shop around
How i get cheap insurance is;
Compare the Market,
Confused
then call the top 3 best quotes and let them battle it out

ORR get a parent on the insurance until 18

i mean im 22 now and i still keep my dad as a named driver as it drops the insurance down!
(and he left my marge at 18 havent seen him since lol!)

£80 a month for an RX8 that does 0-60 in under 6 seconds!
£25 a month for a rover mini cabriolet with all mods declared!
