This is only for people who are sitting on the seat, whilst the owner is pedalling, whilst standing up. Sometimes on bmx the person on the seat puts there feet on the pegs, to keep their legs out of the way, and for comfort :proud:

Only ever once heard it called a 'backie' and thought they were an idiot...

Everybody here calls it a croggy, whether its on the bars, seat, or on stunt pegs.... Derby/Nottingham.

Its a backie in derby!!!!

Nope...... Nobody round here seems to have heard of the phrase "backie" where as teens and old gits alike all use the term cog/croggy etc. It's definitely geographical.

I have another theory though...

As the "cog/croggy" areas seem to lie on the more eastern side of the country, and not in the peripheries of Scotland, Wales & Cornwall either. Maybe there is a historical significance to this, perhaps the term "backie" was wiped out in the east by the Viking or Saxon invaders, and replaced with the terms cog/croggy etc??

After all both Vinkings & Saxons are well documented throughout history as riding into battle on a Raleigh Chopper and commonly with an axe wielding passenger clinging on behind them!! :P

If a bloke asked me for a 'Backie' I'd run as fast I could....noooooo idea where that term came from but they're all a bit odd Darn Sarfff!!

A couple of theories on the 'Croggy' term (which is the RIGHT one)

1. Croggy is slang for Cross Bar...as in one of the places you can sit
or
2. It comes from the Cornish word 'Croggan' which is a limpet shell
or
3. Its related to the cogs and sitting near them

:closed: And dont argue with me its Foster time!!
