I've asked a few mates. From the surrounding areas. ( huntingdon , Cambridge & Peterborough & one in Norwich)
All say It's a backy! my father & mother both 50 years old say it's a backy too
My nan. 74 said its crogy So I'm guessing it's an old folk thing ha ha

Croggy-Hull/York. Never heard of backie before other than tobacco which we call "backie".

CROGGY? what the hell does that even mean.

Surely its a backy, you are sitting on the back of the bike. And since its an action (i.E a doing word = A verb) colloquial language adds the "y".

A la a backy!

Oh and we use backy in Central Scotland,

In Gloucestershire, my missis, a Stroudie (from Stroud), calls it a backie?
