I've been screwed over far too many times now to give people the benefit of the doubt. If someone is falsely advertising something, they must be told. Failing to correct the listing after they have been handed the correct information leaves no alternative but to report someone. I'm not insinuating here that there is anything bad going on, but as I said I've had my fair share of people that have played ignorant when the whole time they were lying.

All I actually said was correct the listing (as I have provided the correct data), or eBay will be notified. Nothing unfair there.

i hate grassers with a passion.

how does he know your giving the correct details ......he doesnt!. shocked you have gone through all the effort of helping other forum members when.... you probly dont know them and they will more then likely stab you in the back or miss sell you something because at the end of the day thats just how it is

Maybe if he researched the very item he is selling before listing it, he would realise he is listing rubbish! I was only trying to help him, he may get a better sale that way.

It's an engine, if you're looking to buy an MPi engine surely you'd do a little bit of research into it first to make sure what you're getting is right, just like you would anything else slightly more expensive, regardless if you're daft enough to buy it then it's your fault he's probably made a genuine mistake not trying to con people.

So regardless, who gives two *$!%'s!

fattail95 - Good on you for emailing him, I agree with you. I've mis-typed things in ebay adds before & had a message about it from other ebayers & then I've corrected the mistake. If no-one tells you then how do you know right? I'm not saying he's mis-typed his add, it looks to me like he's either been told what the engine is, wrongly by the previous owner, or just writen what he (again wrongly) thinks it is. Either way he should correct his mistakes.

The advert should be corrected

Imagine the situation where someone with limited knowledge takes their mpi into the garage because of a crunchy second gear and the mechanic turns round and says the easiest way to sort this is to get a replacement motor!

They go on eBay and buy this, its advertised as an mpi. They've wasted their money or have the hassles of getting their money back!

I wouldn't like it if it were a member of the TMF family!

To the OP though, it may have been better to be a little more diplomatic!

(The quality of the photos still bugs me)

The item has been edited with the following..

Right then after numerous messages some more polite than other, i have come to realise that this is a spi engine and nit an mpi engine
It also does not come with a carb but instead a throttle body
If anyone would like some more pictures then message me your email and i will send them to you
Cheers

It's the sellers responsibility to ensure the item is described correctly, not the buyer. Imagine if you had this delivered to you and thought you were getting a carb engine from the description.

I do agree people should list items as accurately as possible but he just doesn't really seem to know what he's on about so give the guy a break! :D Obviously you'd ask questions before buying something like that anyway :D

Ebay is exactly the same as any other online shop. Of course people are going to "get hurt".

At the end of the day it is the duty of the seller to ensure they know what they are selling.

I bet if it was Minisport or Minispares that put a wrong description on an item, you'd all be on the side of the buyer!

I did not report the guy. If you actually read properly what I said in the original message, I only said I would report him if he chose to ignore the correct information I had issued him. No one was being petty here, only trying to be helpful, perhaps if you thought about the matter a little more, this would become apparent to you. And I disagree, it is fully the sellers duty to issue the correct information about an item. Sure, in this case any person who looked into the matter would realise it is a SPi engine, but some items dont have this convenience, hence people have to rely on the provided information.

Was there really any need to say that though? This was clearly an honest mistake which he rectified as soon as someone pointed it out, and there was no need to make those sort of threats at that stage.

I think you need to get yourself a copy of 'how to make friends and influence people'

Ebay is exactly the same as any other online shop.

Not quite when you are dealing with a private seller and not a business seller.

Buy from a 'trader' who makes some or all of their living selling on eBay and you've full consumer rights (see Consumer Rights guide).

However, buy from an occasional private seller and as long as the goods are 'as described', the only rule is "let the buyer beware". There's little legal comeback, though eBay's Buyer Protection scheme may help.

From: http://www.moneysavi...ebay-protection

So the goods should be described properly - BUT it is not the same as any online retailer.
