I think it's incredibly ignorant to say the Beatles weren't anything special. They invented a songwriting style, the likes of which is used in nearly all genres of popular music today. From a musician's point of view, their songs area basically a textbook of how to integrate key changes convincingly. As songwriters, they had a virtually unparalleled grasp of an enormous variety of musical styles.

Pretty much every genre of music you're likely to enjoy wouldn't exist without them. Don't believe me? Read this http://suite101.com/...b-music-a283101

For the record, I'm not an enormous Beatles fan. I've never really wanted to listen to them that much. To deny their influence and competence is stupidity. That's fact, not opinion.

The Beach Boys are great! I only have a few songs at the moment, but they are great for driving!

As for Bieber, he's just the victim of money makers is all. As much as I think his music is ****, the Bieber brand sells and you can't hate him for that - its the people who made him who should be condemned to hell.

I can't believe someone genuinely compared Kurt Cobain and Justin Bieber in terms of a Twitter fan base

All the Beatles Mini's:
http://www.minispace.co.uk/beatles/

You can guess my opinion of what all the fuss is about!
Not going to enter this discussion.....other than to say I feel very sad for anyone who can't or doesn't get the Beatles, their music or understand what the fuss was all about, in the same way as I do for those that don't get the importance of the 'Mini'.
I am just so glad I got them both and in my lifetime and did not miss out on either of them because such unique events do not happen very often!

Look out for George Harrisons Mini!

The newly restored Beatles Magical Mystery Tour is to be shown on BBC2 tonight after a documentary about it.
It is also re-released on Blu Ray DVD for the first time next week with deleted scenes, etc. so we can chuck out our old fuzzy VHS tape copies!

Personally, I love the Beatles, but I can totally understand why a lot of people just don't 'get it'.

My music taste is pretty wide ranging; from early 60s easily listening to 80s synthpop/electronic to current death metal, mathcore, metalcore etc.

There's a lot of stuff I don't like, but I can still have an appreciation for it. Eminem for example, not my cup of tea at all, but I can appreciate the song writing.

The so-called 'British Eminem' though... this joke is so true: Just played the Cluedo 'Who killed the music' edition. Turns out it was Professor Green, in the studio, with the microphone...

...if the Beatles were so good why were Wings such crap?

The Jam for me were amazing (if I could travel back in time and could see one - and only one - band in their prime, I would answer The Jam in a heartbeat) but look at The Style Council.... I'm not gonna say they were crap, because again I can appreciate something there, but to go from the Jam to that?! The 'Modfather' making music that may as well have been Terence Trent D'arby!

At the end of the day all music is and should be a matter of personal taste and opinion rather than just making sweeping statements. I saw Wings live on several occasions in the 1970's!
Most of the Wings back catalogue today would be pretty impressive even if it was your first and only band!......never mind (for McCartney) your second but it was never likely to eclipse the Beatles success without the unique combination of Lennon and McCartney working together as songwriters.

"Of the nine albums credited to Wings during the band's 10 year life, all went top 10 in either the United Kingdom or United States, with five consecutive U.S. No. 1s. (The only Wings album not to reach the U.S. Top 10 was Wings Greatest.)"

I don't like the Beatles. A few of their more popular songs are good but the majority are, in my opinion, awful. I'm not denying their influence to the industry, it's just my opinion of their music. I don't understand 'the best band ever' statements that you always hear about them and it really frustrates me when McCartney gets drafted in for any big event. If he could sing before is irrelevant, he certainly can't now. The Olympics opening ceremony was going great until he showed up.

They'd only feature on my list of top 10 music artists ever out of respect for their influence, not because they're music is good for my ears.

Agree about the brand- you'd think after how huge companies publicly exploit kids who then go on to have a complete breakdown or shambles of a life - Judy garland, Britney Spears are two that spring to mind (I've just gone way off my iPad, it recognised Britney......:o ) But it's been going on for years and no one seems bothered enough to stop it
