Hey guys, another update!

Here's how i'm thinking the kits will break down:

Attached File  iPhoneKitDiags.jpg   29.9K   59 downloads
Higher quality image here: https://www.dropbox....oneKitDiags.jpg

A: Full electronics kit, with double shielded cable and voltage regulator, plus connectors and fixings
B: Plastic phone holder & fixings only

The cradle itself will be bespoke to the dimensions of your phone + case, or for a naked iPhone if you prefer.

Nearly there! Will let you know when i'm ready to start printing hard and fast.

Ben

I would buy one for my HTC, they look great. The simple idea of using the gap in the dash rail wear the ash tray should be is just brilliant, I've wanted a clock there for ages but a phone holder is even better, mine takes up half the windscreen. Definitely a market for this, just don't take it to dragons den because they're bound to complain about it!

Haha, albeit a very specific market. My GF has an HTC 1x so I may be able to tackle that next, though I will focus on the iPhone for the time being.

Please work on the Galaxy S2 too, just as popular as the iphone! Would require an audio jack cable to the top and charger to the bottom, I'm pretty sure you can't take audio out of a micro USB connection can you?

i would be interested in one of these , but could you just have a usb cable the other end as my head unit takes a usb from the back so it can be all tidy , do you have an idea on the price yet ?

I think this is a very good looking product and has massive potential. For those with android/other smartphones (including myself) many would only need a micro usb cable. Therefore you could use a flexible cable with a clip on the side of the holder to keep it neat when not in use. A similar thing could work for a headphone/aux or headphone/RCA cable. If possible it would also be cool to have the mount rotatable by 90 degrees so that handheld items could be used more efficiently for satnav/watching videos when parked up. I work using cad systems also, so if you'd like any ideas or advice on how some additional features could work, drop me a pm and I'd be happy to help you get this on the market.

Hi All,

Another update - The plastic I was using on the prototype was PLA, which is biodegradable very easy to work with, but over the weakend heatwave I found that it softened a little causing plastic clips to deflect and give way, loosening the fit in the ashtray slot. I am therefore switching to ABS, which has a higher melting point and should aleviate this problem. It did mean that I needed to make some upgrades to my printer, but I just did some test prints and they came out well. Shouldnt be too long now.
